Have the higher capacity micro 9mm's like the Sig P365 Macro X, Springfield Hellcat Pro and even the M&P Plus with the larger magazines made the traditional compact guns like the Glock 19 obsolete? I don't mean obsolete in that they can't be effectively used or carried, but obsolete in that people prefer the smaller slimmer compacts to the micro 9's. While I think that they have an immense amount of merit for concealed carry specifically I still think its hard to do better then a "G19 sized" gun for an all around gun. I have been thinking about one of these slim/stack and half/micro nines as of late but I have to say that while they can be shot well they are require more effort to do so IMO/experience. A regular double stack especially in the G19 size is just so much easier to shoot/handle/draw. My take is for experienced shooters these can make a bunch of sense and fit a niche but I don't know if they are the best choice for a newer shooter. So long story less long. I think they fit a niche but don't feel like they are as well rounded/do it all guns as a traditional sub/compact. But then again my experience and opinion means absolutely nothing as my skill level hovers somewhere between A-Team and Blind Squirrel finding a nut. "Guns are tools. Still rocking my G26. The P365 I shot, while nice, didn't offer enough advantage to supplant the G26 or the PM9 I already owned.

Nope, not in my case. EDC a WCV Gen 5 Glock 19. Have owned and shot "a few" micro 9s over the years, good enough guns, but not my preference. My wife also EDC a Gen 3 26, coming up on 20,000 trouble free rounds through it, no plans of switching to any thing smaller at any time. Good to have choices, just make mine a "non-micro 9". ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

IMO, they both fill different roles, but the Micro-guns are a better solution for most people's needs, and as such have taken a big chunk of the market. It's good to have options. I prefer to carry a traditional compact or subcompact as they fill my hand better and I can do better work with them. So for me, they still have a purpose, and I think the same goes for a lot of other people who have big hands and don't have to place a critical priority on concealment (for the record, I still always carry concealed, but the consequences of getting "made" for me are usually going to be pretty minimal). If your employment or personal safety is absolutely dependent on nobody else knowing that you're carrying a gun, though, or if the little guns actually fit your hands, then a micro-compact makes a ton of sense.

Still finding my way |
They tend to jump around a bit on me and I'm always having to re adjust my grip. I prefer more traditional compact pistols for carry. With a Vedder Light Tuck I can get away carrying them in just about any situation and dress. My choice is the M&P compact. I like that it can accept the same mags as my full size pistols. That's another drawback to micro pistols. They have their own mags that are proprietary to them.

I'll take a G26 over a P365 any day.

In cap-limited states...I'd sadly say yes. Unless someone is grandfathered with standard capacity magazines for larger guns in order to take advantage of familial compatibility (G26 to G18, for example ), the thick, standard double-stack subcomp is definitely at a severe sales disadvantage. We rarely sell G26s or M&P9 2.0 subs (in 1.0 form it used to be the M&P9c) these days, as the so-called micros wildly dominate the sales and market landscape. For us the only larger pistol that comes anywhere close to matching the sales numbers of the G43X, Shield+, Hellcat or P365 is the venerable G19, and that's ONLY because "it's THE G19", selling primarily on its past reputation--particularly with new-to-guns customers--far more than any other reason that I've been able to figure out. Even among current gun owners looking for a smaller carry option, the micros simply rule the roost. For our shop it's not close. HOWEVER, since there's currently a lack of micro 40s on the market, the snappy little G27 remains a very popular seller for us. -MG

I like .40 caliber but what a miserable little half assed SOB of a .40 the G27 is. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Yep. I almost didn't buy my G26 because I'd shot a G27 first (the gen 2.5 with the smooth finger grooves), and absolutely hated that thing. I was glad I gave the G26 a chance, because it was a totally different experience...my Gen3 was a wonderful little gun and I carried it for years.

The G19 is "obsolete"? Not anytime soon. It's the 1911 of the polymer world. Q

Glocks make 2000Z-71 feel all icky. Everybody's trying to get him to buy one and the gun store counter man is all but running after him trying to hit him on the head with a Glock. In the morning, when he pours his cereal into his bowl, a Glock comes out of the box like one of those toys they used to put in cereal for kids. He goes to the pet store and sees a sign: "Buy a puppy, get a free Glock" The other day, he flew commercial, and the TSA put a Glock into his suitcase. What the fuck?? He went to Chik-Fil-A and ordered a chicken sandwich. He opens the bag and what does he see? OK, it was a chicken sandwich, but it might have been a Glock. It's happened before. He sees Glocks everywhere, Glocks everywhere.

I have g19 and g26 and I’d carry my 365 or even 320x carry any day over the Glock. The grip is better for me. Capacity is not an issue.

I really should put our POS system to use and look it up, but my guess is we sell more Glock 19s than P365s now. A couple years back it might have been different, but everybody seems to like buying Glocks still.

And at work last night on my lunch break, a Glock fell out of my box of Cracker Jacks. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

I've gotten to the point where I don't give a shit about printing. I've gone the other way and don't even carry a G19 anymore, I carry my G45. Nobody cares. You could stuff a Desert Eagle in your waistband anymore, most people are looking at their fucking cellphones every second of every day. The only people looking to see who's carrying a gun are other guys legally carrying guns. So no, eleven rounds of 9mm in a gun the size of my G42 isn't appealing when I can carry sixteen or eighteen rounds of 9mm in something I can get a full grip on instead. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Honestly it’s been that way for as long as I’ve carried. I used to joke that I could walk around in a bright yellow shirt with neon green writing that said Hi my name is Chris and I have a cocked and locked .45 at my side, have a nice day. And nobody would notice. Hell I’ve watched people open carry and not get noticed. While I’ve gone down the JFrame / pocket pistol route……like we all likely have or will, my comfort zone is a “G19’esque” sized gun. That being said even if there is little care of printing there is something to be said for less bulk and less weight 16,17, 18……. A half a box of ammo does get a little heavy. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

The convenience is definitely there. My Beretta Nano is much easier to carry than my HK P2000 V3. But the HK is what is in my office with me right now as we speak. In summer, when it's hot I'll carry the Nano. Now that fall is here, I'm back to the compact. __________________________
