Has Critical Duty/Defense superseded TAP? Searching ammoseek I have found no current loadings available.

I assume you’re referring to handgun ammunition, and if so, Mile High Shooting Accessories that is a LE/military distributor for Hornady law enforcement ammunition, doesn’t list handgun ammunition that’s identified as TAP except for a 9mm training round. Their listing of LE ammunition otherwise shows Critical Duty.

In fact, I don’t recall ever seeing any handgun loads that were in TAP packaging. My experience doesn’t prove anything, but the only TAP ammo that I’ve seen were rifle and shotgun loads. If handgun ammunition was available in the TAP line at one time, I suspect that Critical Duty has taken its place.

I have an old box in .40. If I recall correctly it was a round intended for LE. The idea was to have your duty load match your training load. I also believe it was available in 5.56. With todays choices it would not be in my top 10. I haven't seen it in years.

Hornady discontinued the TAP and TAP-FPD line years ago.

On Hornady’s law enforcement page rifle and shotgun TAP ammunition is still listed, but Critical Duty is the handgun ammunition that is shown. Critical Duty is also what is shown in the law enforcement ammunition guide.
