Mike, that's a beautiful collection. How does he pick what he's going to make with the blue and when? "Blue moon" came up and sold recently. I was sorely tempted, and in another phase in life I would have made a serious run for it.

Actually only the Damascus and the ProTech auto were mine. the far right is a production 7 I pulled from the case, the far left is a "Black 7". The handle is G10, but milled to resemble a bolstered/checkered custom. The blue one is an "ultimate 7", the previous year he did 6's in the black and Ultimate looks. Last year he did a six that had the bolsters/handles made from pure silver.

He does these for the USN Gathering. I'm one of the promoters for the show, help with the setup, recruit new makers, write the articles for Blade, etc.

Blade actually kicked back that picture due to the red background...wasn't tactical enough.

That ultimate 7 defies words.

As you probably already know BossHoss has a black 7 for sale right now .

Mike...Would it be possible for you to tell us more about the Usual Suspects Network? I had thought of joining, but it's sort of shrouded in mystery.

That is surprising. The EDC-1 may be a more straightforward option listed here.

Check your log-in over there if you remember it. Your (free) membership exists at USN.

But I want to know what I'm getting into before I get into it. I think I logged in once and quickly logged out when it seemed my personal information was not masked.

I wrote the admin and asked that my account be deleted, guess they didn't do it.

No, they haven't done that.

Name and location are all I believe are identifiable. I believe that if you do not intend to transact business in the cove you may be able to put up a nonspecific location identifier without penalty, but clearly Mike would know much more about this than I.

These Emerson Custom Knives are incredible, that Damascus is amazing. Mr. Emerson clearly has the infinite imagination necessary to envision an endless variety of shapes, colors, configurations, and themes...

Growing up and admiring the works of the great artists, especially the impressionists, I always wished I had that capacity to create. Fortunately, there is a symbiotic and fulfilling relationship between the Artist and the audience...

I prefer the production models because I can hold and use them, and in that way they best communicate their beauty to me.

Ernie does not make the Damascus, it is usually the work of Devin Thomas, Chad Nichols, etc. They provide the blanks and he grinds them.

The name came from a knife purveyor who did not get the demand for Emerson customs. However, he knew there was a small hardcore following that he referred to as "the Usual Suspects". This was before the production models came out, so keep in mind this was 20-50 people scooping up $500-$5000 knives every time. The majority of them migrated to the Emerson subforum on Bladeforums and the name stuck.

Unfortunately the forum would get trolled hard and their management did nothing about it, personally I think they liked the drama as it gave them more hits with which they could lure in advertisers.

Eventually the owner of bfc said "Don't like it, start your own forum" So we did and it grew from 12 to 40,000 members over the course of 10 years.

The main focus of the forums is tactical custom knives, Emerson, Strider, Snody, Horton, Hinderer, Krein, Burch and a ton of other makers have forums on there. It is basically a no-drama forum. We don't tolerate spammers, trolls or thieves. So for being 40,000 strong the place is really pleasant and has more of a family vibe than other forums.

We have subforums on watches, lights, firearms, cigars, just about anything you can think of.

Now as for privacy, it is a closed forum, not indexed by search engines. We don't share our membership lists and do not use banner ads. If you get a cove account (to buy/sell/trade) you do have to have your real name/location in your profile. If you are LEO or military and need to keep this hush-hush, that can be arranged too.

It is a very cool forum, I've been a member since 2003, a Suspect since 2004 and an Admin since 2005. We do our own knife show every year at Planet Hollywood in Vegas on Labor day Weekend, this will be our 5th year and it is probably the second most popular show in the country second only to the Blade show.

I'm not here to recruit or anything, bust since you asked, that's the lowdown. Based on this thread alone, you'd be a perfect fit there! It was started by collector's of Ernie's knives and he is probably the central draw to the forum, also it is the home of Ernie's Order of the Black Shamrock. I'm that organization's first Master at Arms.

Well, I'm in the OBS, ECA...I trust your advice and I'll go back in to the USN and see if my account is still there.

Thank You. Smile

Well, I logged in, and just like Chuck said my account is active...The Redirect didn't find the Forum, must be maintenance.
