Journalist loses job for tweets wishing Covington students would 'f-ing die'

A Los Angeles production studio manager and journalist is out of a job over a pair of tweets that wished death on the Covington Catholic High School students who were involved in a media firestorm over the weekend.

Erik Abriss, a post-production supervisor at INE Entertainment and a pop culture contributing writer at Vulture magazine, wrote Saturday, “I don’t know what it says about me but I’ve truly lost the ability to articulate the hysterical rage, nausea, and heartache this makes me feel. I just want these people to die. Simple as that. Every single one of them. And their parents,” according to The Wrap.

Mr. Abriss was reacting to a viral edited video that showed several students from the Covington school in Kentucky, many of whom were wearing “Make America Great Again” hats, during an encounter with a Native American elder at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The video created the media narrative that the students were taunting the man, but hours of footage that later surfaced showed the contrary, leading to dozens of retractions and apologies by media members and celebrities.

In another tweet reacting to the initial video, Mr. Abriss wrote, “Racism is in its Boomer death throes. It will die out with this younger generation!’ Look at the shit-eating grins on all those young white slugs’ faces. Just perverse pleasure at wielding a false dominion they’ve been taught their whole life was their divine right. F–ing die,” The Wrap reported.

INE Entertainment called Mr. Abriss‘ comments “offensive” in a statement announcing his firing Monday.

“We were surprised and upset to see the inflammatory and offensive rhetoric used on Erik Abriss‘ Twitter account this weekend. He worked with the company in our post-production department and never as a writer,” the company said.

“While we appreciated his work, it is clear that he is no longer aligned with our company’s core values of respect and tolerance. Therefore, as of January 21, 2019, we have severed ties with Abriss,” the company said.

Vulture declined to comment to The Wrap.

At NRO, Molly Powell calls attention to a largely overlooked aspect of the Covington confrontation — the outright racism, homophobia, and religious bigotry of the black nationalist group that confronted the Covington teenagers. She writes:

If you watch the nearly two-hour YouTube video, filmed by a man who seems to be a member of the Black Israelites, you will see the black men, all adult, hurling insult after insult at the students, for well over an hour . It seems accidental that the students and the black nationalists are at the same spot on the mall — the former waiting for their buses back to Kentucky and the latter staging a small demonstration.

The students are called “hyenas,” “dogs,” “white crackers,” and “faggot.” They are ridiculed for being lice-ridden and told to “go back to Europe where you come from.”

One man says he can tell by looking in the students’ eyes that they will be “school shooters.” They are the “product of sodomy.” We hear that black Jesus is coming back to kick the “white crackers’ ass.” This black Christ is not like the image of Jesus the boys supposedly hold — that Jesus is a “faggot child molester.” “Your president is a homosexual!” one man yells.

Why has the conduct of the black nationalists escaped notice while that of the Covington students has been unfairly denounced?

No one on the left (and very few on the right) want to acknowledge that black on white racism exists.
In fact, in my observation, black on white racism not only exists... but it is more vocal, more violent, and more prevalent than white on black racism.

I'm over it. No more turn the other cheek BS. Its time for the Covington kids and their parents to lawyer up and start the lawsuits. These kids were slandered big time, and somebody (or multiple somebodies) need to pay and pay big. Quite frankly, given their behavior thus far, I'd like to see a lawsuit filed against the Covington diocese as well.

A whole lotta people need to pay a big price if this crap is ever going to stop.

I'm thinking that the "protesters" got off really lucky. The crowd I ran with in high school had a tendency to kick ass and take names. We were a bit reactive. Idaho rednecks. Oh, fuck their school for siding with the "Vietnam Vet". Good on these kids, and they are kids, smart kids. They're much smarter than I was at that age.

Is there a reason Law Enforcement did not get involved. These were minors being intimidated and verbally threatened by adults. Is the video evidence enough for the parents to go after the Black Israelites?

The Washington Post, one of the first mainstream news publications to seize on the narrative of racist teenagers harassing an elderly veteran, published a correction to its story today, noting that Phillips is not a Vietnam veteran.

Nathan Phillips was the instigator. There are reports he is fund raising heavily off this fabricated incident.

Phillips, 64, said he felt threatened by the teens and that they swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave.

Phillips kept drumming and singing, thinking about his wife, Shoshana, who died of bone marrow cancer nearly four years ago, and the various threats that face indigenous communities around the world, he said.

“I felt like the spirit was talking through me,” Phillips said.

Nick Sandmann is the Covington High School student who stood face to face with Nathan Phillips on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Saturday.

NBC’s Savannah Guthrie announced that Sandmann was being interviewed and his story would be broadcast on the Today Show Wednesday morning.

And again, there is more to the story. Evidently the black Israelites were taunting the Native American creep before the kids were ever involved. Clearly the so called religious folk weren’t just calling the white people “crackers” and “incest babies”, they were calling the injun “gad”- a term to describe a false god.
