You're right & when new troopers are assigned they look at ya kinda leery, like what the hell does this guy want. Reminds me of the Red and Black Cafe in Portland that made headlines a few years back. Their cafe was of an identical ilk, a socialist/anarchist-oriented employee-owned shop. They went out of business not too long after they "banned" police from their premises. If you like religion, laws or sausage, then you shouldn't watch them being made. | |||

EH and recoatlift, I also greet and thank LEOs when I encounter them. Every Sunday I drive past a local church where off-duty uniformed officers are working traffic for them, and I salute when I pass; they were initially surprised (but returned it) but now they know my car and smile when I do it. I'd like sometime to be able to pay for a meal but have never figured out how to arrange it in a restaurant. I don't know CA discrimination law that well, but in most things they are off the charts for the person being denied a service. SO I would guess you would win a suit about this. But I also think that someone on duty would have a hard time getting the right to sue. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.” | |||

Funny story. I work for a fairly large agency. There is a funeral home in one of the sectors that sits next to a gas station. The funeral home and gas station are right off the interstate. Officers will commonly stop in at the gas station, hit the head, grab something to snack on and drink, and go sit in the parking lot of the funeral home to do paperwork. It's seldomly the same officer, but it is common to see a radio car sitting in the parking lot all hours of the day because it is convenient, centralized in the sector, and really close to the bathroom. Until one day, someone called in and complained because there was ALWAYS an officer sitting at this funeral home. So, we got an email in that sector to lay off sitting at the funeral home to do paperwork because someone complained. Not too much later, the gas station and the funeral home called in to complain that no officers were around their businesses any more. The funeral home owner was actually really apologetic thinking that he had done something to offend someone. I explained to him the situation and he laughed about it just the same as we did. That same day, we rotated back into the funeral home to sit and do paperwork. Most places are pro-police around here to say the least. During the dust up in MO, the running joke was that people were trying to kill us with cholesterol from all the cookies, cakes, and catering that we got delivered to the office. | |||

one less place the cops have to respond to - for anything it could take an awfully long time to get there...the drive-throughs at Dunkin Donuts can be awfully backed up depending on the time of day I think they made a wise choice and are actually helping the cops by making their work loves a bit easier...one less place to have to 'serve and protect' [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC | |||

http://www.powerlineblog.com/a...speed-to-nowhere.php Here’s the complete statement the coffee shop posted in Instagram: Last Friday February 16th a police (OPD) entered our shop and was told by one of our worker-owners that “we have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves.” Since then, cop supporters are trying to publicly shame us online with low reviews because this particular police visitor was Latino. He broadcasted to his network that he was “refused service” at a local business and now the rumblings are spreading. We know in our experience working on campaigns against police brutality that we are not alone saying that police presence compromises our feeling of physical & emotional safety. There are those that do not share that sentiment – be it because they have a friend or relative who is a police, because they are white or have adopted the privileges whiteness affords, because they are home- or business- owning, or whatever the particular case may be. If they want to make claims about police being part of the community, or claims that race trumps the badge & gun when it comes to police, they must accept that the burden of proof for such a claim is on them. OPDs recent attempts to enlist officers of color and its short term touting of fewer officer involved shootings does not reverse or mend its history of corruption, mismanagement, and scandal, nor a legacy of blatant repression. The facts are that poc, women, and queer police are complicit in upholding the same law and order that routinely criminalizes and terrorizes black and brown and poor folks, especially youth, trans, and houseless folks. For these reasons and so many more, we need the support of the actual community to keep this place safe, not police. Especially in an area faced by drug sales and abuse, homelessness, and toxic masculinity as we see here on this block. We want to put this out to our communities now, in case we end up facing backlash because as we know OPD, unlike the community, has tons of resources, many of which are poured into maintaining smooth public relations to uphold power. It will be no surprise if some of those resources are steered toward discrediting us for not inviting them in as part of the community. ******************* Coffee shop workers did not respond to requests for comment on the policy, but a post on their Instagram account showed a photo with writing in Spanish that says, “Talk to your neighbors, not the police.” | |||

Thirty years ago or so, the 7-Eleven convenience store chain made it a policy to offer LEO free coffee (some would even waive the snack some officers would want to purchase with the coffee). This paid off in spades. I worked part-time for a 7-Eleven, and I remember one evening when some skeevy-looking guys came into the store. They wandered around, not really looking at products. I had a bad feeling... Then, in came one of our regular LEO customers. We started aimless chit-chat until the crew left. The officer told me he'd seen the outfit enter and decided it was time for coffee... You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. Good point, Jerry. It makes me wonder where they think they’re going with this. Do they actually believe this to be a path to success in retail, is it just virtue signallying, or is there some other purpose? Perhaps the most likely reason is they are just idiots. Name me one incident —JUST ONE— where a police office has caused problems while getting a coffee. Well, unless your primary clientele has a list of warrants from here to Yonkers. In which case, good luck in your gun free safe space. One last point. I bolded some extra-special idiocy. Any of you LE out there ever worked for a department so awash in resources that they cannot find places to put the cash? These idiots think this about the OPD. When I was in Oakland and heard shots fired, the response time was 15 min. Hardly seems like an over-staffed department.
