Deqlyn, thanks for the comeback & link.
Trying to live by the 10 Commandments also helps me cope.

Oh, I thought you were serious. I recently let my friend read the Tao who is "very Christian" and he ended up buying one. Not to leave christianity, but sound advice is sound advice no matter where it comes from. He said, "I've been trying to put this into words for a long time now, I cant believe this."

To stay on topic of the thread I left Catholicism for about the same reasons as Crom. I mostly study the Tao but still believe in some basic principles of catholicism. I believe everyone has their own path to take no matter what it may be.

I am serious Deqlyn, I do read Lao Tzu & find him very comforting & intelligent. I think the book I have is titled, "The Way To Do Is To Be". Sorry if the title is wrong, I spend my time inside the cover! Smile

I'm not really leaving.
I grew up Catholic. I was an Altar boy and my 3 sisters and I went with my parents to Mass every Sunday until I got a car when I was 16.

At that point, we would sometimes go to Mass down at the UT campus or occasionally the nearby Catholic church for 5:30 pm Mass.

A lot of times we would skip Mass, but one of us would run in and grab a bulletin for proof. We got busted once when Dad happened to go to the same service and asked us which priest said Mass.

Anyway, I stopped going for a long time and then started going back about 3 years ago. It was nice but I stopped going regularly.
I'm having issues with my faith as I have always had. I'll go back again at some point. Maybe.

Google "Behind the Pine Curtain" and read away ....

I grew up in MN, went to church every Sunday, and went to Catholic schools from K - 12 and then SJU.

I had two priests at my K - 4 school and one male teacher who became a priest. The two priests are no longer priests ( guess why ) and the one who became a priest has been disciplined.

I'm no longer impressed.

To be fair, the Church did consult with professionals regarding this and the prevailing wisdom among the psychiatric community at the time was that moving the offending priests away from their temptation, as it were, was the recommended way to deal with it.

How do you move priests away from the temptation? Put them in a monastery?

Religion is not a building or a figurehead. We attend a church but I find the greatest connection with God when I am in the outdoors.
