Fighting the good fight |
Note that "Mad Jack" never fought in the Normandy landings. (Though he did fight in France in 1940 as part of the British Expeditionary Force, before being evacuated at Dunkirk.) That photo of him assaulting a beachhead with his sword is from a Commando training exercise on the Scottish coast in 1942ish. During the time of the Normandy D-Day landings in June 1944, "Mad Jack" was in German custody, having been captured while his Commando unit was spearheading a partisan raid in Yugoslavia the month prior.

I thought you'd recognize the difference between standing "guard" and "officer of the day"... OOD uniform can include dress sword - it did at USNA as a routine, and would be appropriate any time the uniform of the day is "full dress" - which Quantico certainly might specify for holidays. Considering it was Mattis, it might have been a sharpened Mameluke, in case there were meat filled boots or others to slice...http://www.coldsteel.com/marine-officer.html NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

I did that, but there was a detail I wanted to know about. Capishe? I still have my sword, engraved with my name. Our company officer at NAVOCS insisted that everyone buy them in order to graduate. I wore it once, at a change of command. I remember that if you were a company commander, batt or regimental officer, you wore them for PIR and Captain's inspections. I can't remember any situation that called for wearing a sword otherwise. I realize the Marines have a different culture about those things. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Any Marine NCO, or officer, is authorized to wear a sword while in the propper uniform. As this was Quantico, "close to the flag pole" as they say, and a holiday, the uniform of the day was more than likely dress. Either way it was entirely appropiate for General Mattis to don his sword for duty. Once he puts on the duty belt he is "under arms"; may as well be armed. If it's anything like the OOD I am used to he most certainly had a loaded M9 too boot. Never seen an OOD without one. That is neither here nor there though, and I understand your question JALLEN. One thing I am certian of, I don't think I know of any red blooded American that wouldn't follow this man wherever he asked. If he is leading, I am following.

Woo hoo! Thanks for the link. Though you needed the twitter to see those. I'll tell you what, I was talking to a buddy in TX last night and we both agreed; no matter what happens, who he choses for whatever, it is going to be a great day for our country. We finally have a future worth looking forward to. I am excited, very excited to see a resurgence of American pride. It has been sorely lacking in the last decade. The democrats call it "nationalism" and equate it to the rise of Hitler. Good. Keep pushing that narrative. Keep telling everyday ordinary Americans we are "-ists". Racist, sexist, -ist -ist -ist. You lost. We won. The people spoke, and they told you to STFU! I am sick of elections but I am looking forward to the senate races in 2018. We are gonna clean house! Oh, to Nancy Pelosi? Please keep pushing the failed democratic narrative, I love what it has done for you and our country!

^^^ Isn't it great having an adult (business man) in charge? I believe, FIRMLY, that the economic message Trump is pushing will lead to an American resurgance. I also believe the next four years will push more and more Americans to his side. People are happy when they can provide for their family's with some security. The divisiveness that is the current democratic party will wither and die, clinging to life only on the elite coasts. Go ahead left, whine and cry; lament your removal from the American consciousness. Like the socialism you push so ardently, so history pushes back. And as history has proven socialism will be as Reagan said, relegated to "the ash heap of history".

Mark Levin is slowly showing some color when it comes to Trump telling companies what they face if they move out. Little by little Levin is lining himself up to support the rinos who are now gone. It pisses me off big time to hear his old boy network rants on the radio.

I want to hear Levin when his studio is moved to Mexico and he is replaced by an offshore resource. He'll be lovin' the laissez-faire NAFTA RINO shit then. Maybe Marky can find a job as farm labor for one of Lindsey Graham's plantation-owning donors? All I heard from Levin this week about Carrier was all bitching and no alternative ideas other than status quo. They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

on page 1175, Floyd D posted a link to an interview that Tucker Carlson did w a Newsweek rep. It was about the Newsweek version that had Clinton winning. The actual story in that version was terrible. examples: “as the tone of the election grew darker and more bizarre by the day, President-Elect Hillary Clinton ‘went high’ when her opponent and supporters went even lower.” “No stranger to trudging through the mire of misogyny in her career as First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State, President Clinton managed to push for an issues-based campaign, even as a handful of Trump’s deplorable supporters, seeing the wide margin she held among female voters, called for repealing the 19th Amendment.” When Carlson asked who wrote the article, the Newsweek rep said they farmed the story out and no one at Newsweek actually read it before publishing it. more at: http://hotair.com/archives/201...dam-president-issue/

There's a military tradition where the senior ranks put on their dress uniforms and serve meals in the mess hall. To me, what he did makes perfect sense.
