I remember several years ago seeing a youtube video of a guy walking through a city in France (Marseille?) and a bunch of thugs "yoots" (possibly armed w clubs or something) were following him menacingly and he was just trying to get away but he was carrying concealed and even after he lifted his coat to show them he was armed they still followed him.

He had to draw down on them and tell them to fuck off before they actually fucked off. Super brazen on thugs part...I guess according to Le Macaroon the guy is just supposed to let these assholes beat him to death rather than use deadly force to defend himself.

Perhaps Putin should make his way across all of Europe, giving them a reminder of what it means to be able to defend yourself. How stupid has society gotten in only a generation or two?

You’d think someone from a country that was steamrolled by a foreign power and then liberated from said power would have a different attitude about citizens defending themselves. He’ll, you’d think the population would be drawing and quartering him for even suggesting such a foolish remark. What a jackass.

I would be the first to admit that I am not in touch with the French people on this point, but I can't imagine they are anti-self defense, on the whole.

I know. I had to double check before posting, but that appears to be a direct quote.

ETA: Yes it is in fact. My wife found the audio and translated it for me. He said it.

And you'd probably lose that bet. My wife asked her parents what they thought of this statement, and they found it as elitist and out of touch as I did, particularly my father-in-law. I don't think they would be in the minority in that thinking either.

You think a French man or woman, a father or mother, is so different from us that he or she thinks he shouldn't have the right to defend his children or himself from harm? Again, you'd be wrong.

That elitist and those who think like him should lose all their protection and see what it feels like to be responsible for their own defense.

I wonder if the mindset is that the bodyguards are defending him, as in like the police,
and if attacked etc, he would not be defending himself,

it's just that his police (personal police btw) are standing next to him,, vs miles away

I think you nailed it. Elitists, especially elitist government leaders, see the tax payer funded security protection details surrounding them as their own police force, always present and ever-ready to defend in an instant.

Why would you peasants need to defend yourselves when the police will do it for you...and they are trained and equipped to do it better than you could possibly do it? How dare you want to arm yourselves and defend yourselves when the government provides you with a better, more civilized, option....

...in other words, they are completely clueless as to the realities of relying on police for protection and defense.

Macron's exact statement: "Je suis opposé à la légitime défense."

Translation: "I am opposed to self-defense."

Where is the national order to eliminate security service details for the politicians now? No self-defense.

Why is the man charged with murder? Is there a different definition of it over there in France?

I have tried to figure out the French handle their courts without success. Their use of Judges as investigators just seems odd. Maybe someone who is knowledgeable about the French system will check in. I sure cant!

I suppose the French people are being caught off guard with the knowledge that there is a Nazi already in power, thereby negating the need to take anything by force. Sad.

On the other hand, it seems like a recipe for revolution2.0 if they’re up for it collectively.

I thought that was an interesting article, and my initial response was something along the lines of, "Only someone whose complete existence is completely secured by armed men would say something like that."

But then I read the article, which was from a source I never heard of before. I then tried to find it in major outlets, but only turned up other sites I had never heard of. Those, and InfoWars. That doesn't mean the story isn't true, of course, it just means it doesn't appear to be reported in major conventional news sites. Yet.

To add…

It's a great story whether it's true or not. Fuck that frog. Even if he didn't say it...I know he's thinking it.

Let's play this out. Let's say that this is the way it should be. This reads like - it's a crime if public authorities allow for violence or some unsafe outcome to be perpetrated on a victim.

Fine, let's be explicit on who gets held accountable and start putting these public authorities in prison along with the criminal every time there is a victim. The more violent the crime, the higher up the chain it goes. Murder, goes all the way to the top.

Another elitist with security that couldn’t give a damn about the safety and rights of their average citizen. Their excuses and rhetoric may change from country to country but they are all pretty much the same out of touch elitist filth in the end. Not at surprised. When is the public going to finally and meaningfully loose patience with such appalling disparities?

Find your calm, I didn’t notice your 2nd post on the 2nd page; and I don’t speak French.

The point I was making is that what he said is pretty big; it is not unnoticeable to me that not one reputable media outlet, in the whole world, picked up on the story and ran it.

You'd think it would get more press, wouldn't you? Certainly in the US it'd be a hugely damning statement, at least for a majority of voters I should think. But then again, he is currently in a tight race and has a real chance of losing re-election to a "right-wing" opponent.

Now I ask you, if something as monumentally huge as the revelations in the Hunter laptop can be ignored and silenced by the media and on social media in the lead up to a US Presidential election, is it really surprising that this potentially damaging "minor" story might be somewhat hard to seek out when maybe the leftwing press isn't too eager to get it out there?

In any case, there it is.
