The best burger I have ever had was at a little hole-in-the-wall place in San Diego called The Balboa.

I also had a stand-out burger while I was visiting Guam. That place was called Stax.

If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area, check out a place called “Jamison’s on West Liberty”. Also called “JMOS” for short. They have amazing hamburgers. Small, family owned business. You won’t leave disappointed.

OK, maybe not that funny

It is funny. But took me a minute to get it.

BTW – In my post about the Shake Shack “Shack Burger” that resurrected this 3 yo thread (page 9), I forgot to mention that one of the things I like about it is that it isn’t too big. I have to watch my weight carefully these days.

Vortex in Atlanta used to have awesome burgers. (They may still, but I haven't been in awhile).
Locally - Baha Burger
Chain - Tie between Wendy's and Whataburger

There used to be a place at BHM called VJ's Cafe on the Runway. The original building was at the approach end of runway 18. Greasy spoon type of place. They had THE best bacon cheeseburgers around.

Lou's Full-Serv, Jackson, MS (Patty Melt) or

Babalu in Jackson, MS (the Ba-Ba Burger) or

Ruby Tuesday's (yes, I know) in Knoxville, TN. Those 3 stand out from all the rest of bought burgers. The one at Ruby Tuesday would've been considered a flier and unworthy of recognition, but I ended up back there about 3 times during different years, and they were all outstanding. Then they went and "improved" it, and it wasn't the same.

Now, I've come up with a mix that's pretty solid at the hacienda, involving hot sauce, worchestershire, appropriate use of egg....

Heck yeah! I've posted once or twice recently, I think, that I've been making pork burgers instead of beef burgers.

Don't get me wrong, I love beef. But I got tired of it and tried pork. My local grocery grinds fresh pork every day and it is really good! And it is a lot cheaper that beef. I think I'm paying $2.99 a pound for ground pork.

I do have 3 pounds of fresh ground beef in the fridge, it will get grilled tomorrow, Thursday night.

They also add sausage seasoning to the pork, and one day when I requested ground pork the clerk goofed and gave me the freshly ground sausage.

I didn't catch the mistake until I was forming it into patties to go on the grill. I decided to go ahead and cook it because, dang it, I was hungry.

I really really enjoyed the taste of a sausage patty burger. Dang it was good.

Nothing wrong with stepping out of your comfort zone at times. Try something different.

I just form it the same way I do beef, salt and pepper, and grill it.

It's a very good different taste.

I'm glad somebody else has tried and liked it.

I have been able to travel all around so always on a good local burger hunt.

Faster food Aka Great Cheaper food

In and out. Number one. double double animal style.

Was rerouted from NYC to DFW and stuck the night. Super pissed until I remembered. Dallas has In and Out, $35 in ubers for a 10.99 meal.

Cookout - chain in TN etc

Wisconsin has local places before growing big like Culver’s and Freddie’s. Mmmm

Maxwell Street Jimmy onion burger there are a few places other places in Chicago

Sit down fancier. Aka $15 and up

In NYC - Rare. Been many times and never a bad burger. (Who knows if they will reopen).

Sickies Garage has some good burgers.

Kumas Corner. Awesome to great depending on crowd and cook.

Had many others that are good and really good but takes a lot to break into my great.

Good meat. Medium rare cooking and good fresh bun. Bingo

It was a long time ago (circa 1982), I don't remember the name of the place and it might not even be in business any more, but I had one of the best burgers ever in Gold Beach, OR. In fact, in several trips through OR (various places, in the early/mid 1980s) I don't think I ever had bad "road food."

Honestly, the quarter pounder at McDonald's yesterday was really good. But then, I hadn't eaten for about 16 hours and was kinda hungry.

Best fast food burger is Whataburger.

Best sit down burger is Hodad's in San Diego, big greasy burger with pastrami on top and run through the garden. Throw in a side of the best onion rings I've had, and you got yourselg a good day.
