Great tech and info video on the Ford F150 Lightning
If I was going to get a new electric vehicle (not that I can afford any new vehicle ), this truck would be at the top of my list. Yes I understand the crappy politics of electric vehicles. I just think that of the current electric vehicles, the features on this truck are very cool. This video shows a lot of the interesting features from a techie's point of view and how the range is actually calculated (and spoiler, it is much more than the advertised 300).

I was hoping to see a new supercharged F150.
I think the previous lightning looked much better than this latest version. Ford should give their electric stuff different names.

I'm not a Ford guy and I'm not sold on EV's for mass consumption bit it looks to be a hell of a truck. The frunk alone could almost sell me on one because good, locking storage is the only think my truck doesn't have that I'd love.
I've been wondering lately though, how many homes have enough electric service to charge without shutting off your central air. I think I read the Ford will take an 80 amp breaker.

Ford is a Rivian investor, I’m sure they’ve learned a lot.
One thing I don’t care for in most EV designs is the center dash stack design. I’d like the screens to be smaller, and more integrated into the dash.

I think this electric truck has potential. I would like to see how it negotiates soft ground like deep snow, mud, or waterlogged lawn. The inability to quickly refill, especially from a jerry can type device, makes it a no go for me. I wonder how well the electric Transit vans have sold, and if they are going to be upgraded to Lightning specs.

This is for "trucks as cars" people. Driving around and occasionally bringing home some lumber or drywall from the home improvement store.
Haul a real load or pull a trailer of any significant size and range will drop a lot.

I’ll take the looks of the new over the old. Always seemed to look like it had a fat lip with that swollen bumper and I hate step/flare sides. That was a fantastic drivetrain in that truck though.
I am very intrigued by EV stuff but not for anything practical or “earth saving.”

I’ll be pulling for Aprilia to shock the world tomorrow at Mugello. If that V4 can hold up and not kaboom like they both did at Le Mans I think it’s going to shock some people tomorrow. Suzuki has good pace so I wouldn’t count them out either.
I don’t dislike the idea of an electric truck but why name it the same name as their old super charged truck?

Im curious to see how the Lightning release goes with the current chip shortage.
I would be interested in a Lightning but there is not way I would pay a penny over MSRP. I can see dealers charging a hefty premium when they get released.

The current F150 platform, a platform that Ford has been very familiar with for the past 20+ years, has provided a continual stream of recalls for buyers recently. Given this new 'Lightning' truck is brand new territory for Ford, you really wanna pony up $50k+ for one and bet Ford can get it right? My bet, this thing will suffer some monumental and continuing recalls once Ford manages to get them into the hands of customers. Step right up, pony up $50-$60k, and you too can become a beta tester.

You misunderstand me. While I think this is the neatest of the electric vehicles (in a utility point of view), that doesn't mean I would actually buy one even if I had the money. I buy things I can work on, hence my 1996 Ford F250 with 225K miles and a 351 engine. Doesn't even have electric windows!

Given the fact that most households have at least 2 vehicles an EV “could” be a great option, unless you’re a city dweller.
The ability to power your home for a few days during a power outage will be a great selling point for those prone to these outages.
As far a charging goes most Ev vehicles can be charged fairly quickly with a 240V, 40 amp plug similar to what you probably have for your dryer. You shouldn’t have to increase the size of your houses service.

The SVT Thunder was a real project. Was to be a contemporary with the Lightning, but based on the Expedition. Project was canceled, as the Exped was due for a refresh 2 years later. Ford didn't see the merit in pursuing it.
Supposedly, the Lightning parts are mostly direct fit to the Exped.
Also, the S/C Lightning was the 2nd generation, the 1G was just a Sport truck (and the one I'd buy). Always liked that boxier body truck.

GM kinda beat them to the punch with the name “Thunder”. The Aussies have/had a modern El Camino available with a supercharged LS and manual transmission under their Holden brand that was called the Maloo, which is aboriginal for thunder. It’s an appropriate name because you often hear a Maloo before you see one. The HSV (performance versions) are LOUD!

If you think this green crap is the future well do a little investigation on the batteries, their impact on the environment and where all the huge battery factories are being built and how the raw materials are gathered for them and by who.
