Democrats outnumber Republicans and legislation like this becomes law. Did not get one Republican vote and Bailey openly stated he would not comply.
Of course Pritzker cheered this on. Pretty soon Illinois will be empty. Here is the article:

PRINGFIELD — The Illinois Senate has voted to pass an assault weapons ban six months after the Highland Park tragedy that claimed the lives of seven people and injured dozens more.

The bill will now go back to the state House for another vote on Tuesday.

Lawmakers pushed to pass the measure before the new legislature was sworn in.

Illinois House passes assault weapons ban, now heads to Senate
Gov. JB Pritzker, House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch and Senate President Don Harmon issued a joint statement in support of a sweeping assault weapons ban:

After continued negotiations between the leaders, stakeholders and advocates, we have reached a deal on one of the strongest assault weapons bans in the country. Gun violence is an epidemic that is plaguing every corner of this state and the people of Illinois are demanding substantive action. With this legislation, we are delivering on the promises Democrats have made and, together, we are making Illinois’ gun laws a model for the nation.”

The amended Senate bill defines which weapons are deemed assault-style and immediately bans the sale of those weapons and high-capacity magazines. It also creates a system to register the serial numbers of currently owned weapons, tracking them and preventing future sales and transfers. Additionally, it moves the date of background checks for person-to-person sales up to July of this year.

The bill’s passing does not change the FOID card age, however.

As last-minute wrangling occurred in Springfield, a group of Chicago doctors convened with a plea to pass the assault weapons ban.

“The damage from assault weapons is not like from other guns,” said Dr. Sheena McKenzie, a pediatrician in Highland Park Pediatrician.

Pritzker takes 2nd oath as IL governor
Dr. Omar Lateef with Rush University Medical Center called gun violence an ongoing “public health crisis.”

“I think we can all see enough is enough and that should not be a controversial statement,” Lateef said.

But Senate Republicans railed against the bill.

“Friends, you’ve got to know the actions you’re taking right now are tyrannis,” said State Senator Darren Bailey (R-Louisville).

“We’re going to create felons out of taxpayers. Why don’t we go after the bad guys, put them behind bars and keep them there?” added Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet).

“Make no mistake, when you vote for this today, you’re violating your oath of office,” said Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro).

But doctors said the bill, as it stands, will help.

“Our communities need common sense solutions that will reduce gun violence and save lives,” McKenzie said.

In response, gun advocates say if any restrictions pass, they will be prepared.

“There’s no question that it’s going to court. That’s why we gave no testimony,” said Dan Eldridge with Maxon Shooter Supplies in Des Plaines. “There’s no fixing this. We didn’t want to give them subject matter expertise on making a better bill. They can read our objections in the court filings.”

Yes, good people are leaving Illinois. But... that only makes things worse. Illinois will NOT be empty. Chicago is the problem. Downstate Illinois is pretty nice.

It’s sickening how all of these shitholes are more or less allowed to paint evil black rifles as the problem when rifles of any kind contribute only a tiny fraction to so called “gun violence”. In fact, the quote from doctors in the article spell it out clearly- the problem isn’t the type of gun, it’s the fact that violence is occurring out of control- as a result of leftist liberals encouraging it with laughable sentencing and release policies.

Drop the word gun, and focus on violence and the groups that are the primary offenders. Turn law enforcement loose on Chicago alone and watch the state figures drop like a stone.

Here is a short video and within the first 6 minutes it shows the type of crap democrats use in the Illinois State senate to play on emotions to ban firearms, pretty sickening stuff of snowflake lady from Highland Park playing audio of her kid screaming, at 4:40, at the parade and that's good enough reason to ban "assault weapon" Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

It makes me feel so sick in my stomach to hear the tyranny deployed here.
I can only imagine how helpless Illinoisians must feel.
God help them and let's hope for a swift lawsuit to stop the madness.

This is why we are trying to keep Stacy Abrhams out of Georgia.

She promised to be a grabber.

To hear Pritzker talk about public health at 350lbs is hilarious. I wonder if they did a study on the types of guns used in the vast majority of gun deaths in Illinois. We all know that answer I suppose.

This will do absolutely nothing to prevent gun deaths in the state and everyone knows it.

They are doing the same thing her in Colorado. There is a Gun Control bill that in in the desk drawer of the Dems to ban 'Assault Guns'. A couple tweaks are needed to put on the floor and pass without a single R vote.

Notice how the Doc calls 'gun violence a 'public health crisis'? That is the angle the Dems are going to take to get rid of the 2A. Guns must be banned to save the public....

There were 15,070 murders in the United States in 2016, the most recent year that FBI data and gun trace information from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms were available. That includes 799 murders by firearm in Illinois in 2016.

The FBI defines “murders” as nonnegligent manslaughters and homicides. They do not include suicides and accidental shootings.

Nearly 75 percent of the country’s murders were committed using a gun, but rifles — meaning any rifle, not just AR-15s — were used in just 374 of them. That’s about 2 percent of all murders and 3 percent of all murders in which a gun was used.

Interesting how the democrats in Illinois didn't seem to be bothered much with often weekly death/shootings that exceeded what happened in Highland Park parade in their minority ghettos in Chicago but as soon as whites were the victims in an upper middle class suburb they pulled out all the stops. Highland Park also had their own "assault weapon" ban, the parade was in a "gun free safe zone", and the authorities were aware of this bad character yet their "red flag" law did not help either.

The trouble is that by the time challenges to this and similar legislation pending in Washington State reaches the SCOTUS, its composition may have been altered by any retirements and judges poopy Joe is told to appoint now the Dems control the Senate.

Always with the negative waves, Moriarty. It wouldn't have to get the Supremes to be overturned at this point, anyway.

I am not a lawyer but keep in mind the following which I believe means matters will be settled much sooner than later. Judge Benitez in California has already set a deadline for some of the below in California which we hopefully should be hearing about fairly soon. Also New York is right now in battle with SCOTUS over their new draconian carry law that basically gave SCOTUS the middle finger over the Bruen decision and their governor thought it would be years before they had to deal with them again. Illinois is under jurisdiction of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit which means Second Amendment cases are far more likely to get a fair ruling than say the Ninth if it gets there.

https://reason.com/2022/07/01/...lt%20weapon%22%20ban.

"The Supreme Court yesterday vacated four appeals court decisions upholding gun control laws, remanding the cases for reconsideration in light of its decision last week in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. The remanded cases involve Hawaii's restrictions on carrying guns for self-defense, California's 10-round magazine limit, a similar New Jersey law, and Maryland's "assault weapon" ban."

Will new new law make the Bloods, Crips and Hoovers turn in their assault rifles? Sort of doubt the gangbangers will comply. Maybe I'm a pessimist.
