Alea iacta est |
Good evening SigForum… I have done a lot of research on wireless earbuds. There are certain pairs I want to try, but can easily be narrowed down by a few answers from people who probably know. I am not trying to be rude, but I am not interested in opinions on sound quality, battery life, why earbuds suck, why I should buy wired or over the ear, etc. I really need to know about fit. I bought a pair of Beats Fit Pro. They don’t fit. Not the silicone tip in the ear canal. That part fits great. It’s the concha cavum. The hard plastic part fills my concha cavum and pushes against the inside of the antitragus. This causes pain in about three minutes. I tried not securing the wingtips. It was more comfortable, but not good in any way. They just don’t fit at all. (Continued below photo) So I’m trying to find something that doesn’t fill the concha cavum with hard plastic. I am very interested in the EarPods from Apple. Specifically the pro, but this is where I am curious. Are they sized like the Beats? Do they fill the concha cavum and use that pressure to secure them? I’m looking for a wireless earbuds that uses the silicone tip in the ear canal to secure it, not securing it by wedging it into the concha cavum. What other earbuds that don’t have any wires (no behind the neck wires) that have the fit I am looking for? Any suggestions to the fit is greatly appreciated. ***For reference, Jaybird X3’s are the most comfortable earbud I have ever worn. They just have a wire. The “lol” thread

Bose eartips are the most comfortable I've ever used. If they fit well, they're very soft and very stable.

Custom fit tips from an ENT place? I understand that's not the issue for you, but they may be able to mold them such that they don't have to be inserted is far and are more retained by the tip and ear canal. Several guys I work with have had custom fit tips for radio earpieces (particularly former wrestlers whose ears are wrecked). Good on you for such a well thought out and articulated request.

I recently upgraded to AirPod pros. They secure in the manner that your desiring, based on how I understand it. Basically you shove them in and the silicone goes into your ear canal and the pressure inside is what holds them. I highly recommend them. I’m not had a whole lot of different types to compare them to, but I think they are awesome. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

I have the Apple Airpods and Airpods Pros. The Airpods are a plastic unit that can't be adjusted to fit your ear; however, the Pros have three swappable, slightly different sizes of silicone tips that fit inside the ear canal to help secure the pods and block external sound. This helps assist the noise-cancelling of the Pros. So far as I know, there are no other sizes, so if your canals end up being smaller or larger than the included tips, you're out of luck. I don't know if there's a way you could try them at an Apple store before purchasing. You should try looking into them. Concur with this observation. My only beef is them is there is no noise cancellation on the microphone. Not a super issue on meeting calls from my basement, until the water heater kicks in. -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. I have Aeropex Aftershocks. Not exactly earbuds as they don’t go in the ear canal. They sit on the bone in front and behind your ears. Great sound and battery life. The easiest and most reliable Bluetooth connection of anything I’ve used. Very comfortable too. https://shokz.com/products/ope...RbJ8SnRoCww8QAvD_BwE ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

You used a lot of big words but I am pretty sure I am picking up what you are putting down. Soft stuff inside the ear and actually stays in place. The old Apple plastic ear buds stayed in place very nicely but that hard sold plastic was brutal and in about 2 minutes caused splitting pain. I got a set of Skullcandy Indy ANC I know you did not ask about sound but they sound great and you can use the Skullcandy App to tune them to your liking. They also have built in Tile App. https://www.skullcandy.com/ind...uel-wireless-earbuds I got a refurbished off eBay for silly cheap and have had zero issue and come with a 2 year warranty. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Skull...id=711-127632-2357-0 ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I have two pairs. They are great. They just aren’t what I’m looking for. The behind the head touches the coat collar, etc. Thanks for the suggestion though. The “lol” thread

Air Pods Pro. The top of the line these days and good ear fit with the changeable soft ear pieces. A new version is coming out later this year. I have no idea what those will bring to the table but I'm thinking they'll drop the extended stem. An alternative is the Beats Fit Pro True Wireless Earbuds. Hey, I posted a pic to reference the anatomy of the ear, because before I looked at the pic, I had no idea what any of it was called, other than the ear, and the lobe. Yes, the old apple wedge it in and endure the suck. That’s exactly what these are like, but with a silicone tip to isolate the sound. Glad to hear the skull candy are canal buds. I’ll be comparing these and the Bose that BobtheElf suggested, when I go to Costco this weekend. I saw the skull candy on sale last week, but I was quite set on the Beats due to the sound quality and all the other features. Anyways, thanks for the feedback. The “lol” thread

I have the Bose earbuds. Extremely comfortable and the portion of your ear where you've expressed concern isn't an issue with the Bose. Soft silicone the snuggles in nicely. Some model have active noise cancelling and others don't. Mine do and it's worth the $ over the buds that don't however the soft comfy fit is the same.

Now I am definitely leaning toward the Bose. I did a bunch of searching and found a good pic of the AirPods Pro. They seem to be very, very similarly shaped as the Beats Fit Pro. Probably because they are one in the same. The “lol” thread

I have the bose and the airpod pro. I prefer the sound quality and fit of the bose, but I seem to have issues connecting with phone calls. For that reason I find myself using the Airpods the majority of the time. Not sure if others have issues with the bose and phone usage, it could be user error.

I have and use the AirPod Pros. Like many others, they depend on the friction fit of the silicone ear tips in the ear canal to stay in place. My problem is the shape of my ear canal must flare out because activity will cause them to work loose, and fall out regardless of which tip size I choose. I have another set with a silicone arm that braces against the Concha Cymba. They stay in place a bit better during activity. No solution for your issue, but something to watch out for if you go with friction fit earbuds. I was at Costco a week or two ago and they had earbuds for sleeping. The entire earpiece looked to be made of a soft rubbery material. I can't comment on quality but they looked very comfortable and may be what you are looking for. I'd be happy to swing by Costco this weekend and get a picture plus make, model, etc. if you want. __________________________

I really like Jabra in ear buds. I have three versions (65, 75 and 85), that I got over the years. All still work, Jabra just sent discounts that I could not pass on. Airpods never worked in my ears. I did try the Pros, but like the fit better with the Jabra.

Apple AirPods Pro — they come with different sized tips. And they’re basically the best thing ever. I’ve used mine for multiple hours every day for a couple years now and they’re a game changer. _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.
