Um, I beg to differ. The BATF are FAR from innocent and deserve far worse ridicule.

You must have been triggered.

I’ve been visiting for many years. In the recent few years I believe that too many threads have become tangents of bickering and name calling. Too much vulgar language etc. (of which I’m not a stranger)
I once tried to visit the site on an airport WiFi. Sigforum was blocked for whatever reason. I wrote to a contact provided in the notice that the Sigforum was a well written and well moderated site. A short time later I was allowed to visit.
I’ve also told several people over years that Sigforum isn’t full of the mouthy dipsticks found on car forums and whatnot, it’s mostly well spoken thoughtful posters. That is kind of changing as of late but I can still enjoy by skipping over this mess.

Welcome in.

I guarantee you the site was not blocked because of the language used here.

The issue has zero to do with language, absolutely zero. Public WiFi networks employ filters; there are some sites to which you cannot go. The admin of a particular network is not sitting there saying "They say bad words a lot on SIGforum, so I am going to disallow access to that site on this network."

No, this site fits into the broad category of "Weapons" in the "bundles" these network admins plug in to their network. These bundles encompass thousands of websites in broad categories- weapons, pornography, racist content, etc, and these lists are compiled by people who have never ever visited this forum.

When you contacted someone who manages that WiFi network, they took the time to glance at this site, and seeing nothing untoward, they white-listed this website, which means that that network was no longer blocking access to us. Blocking us was done as a matter of automation, and unblocking us was a conscious decision by a network admin.

SIGforum has a very long-standing policy about the use of profanity on these pages:

https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/8191014801

Look at the date on that post. Profanity is compartmentalized here. I am a pragmatist. The majority of adult males in this society use profanity to some degree, so I do not attempt to make us appear to be something we are not. As with most things in this life, striking a proper balance is the key.

Regarding the word "faggot"- this word does not fall into the category of profanity AFAIC; it is a pejorative. This may seem to you like a meaningless distinction, but, to me, the word is on the same level as "sissy" or "queer"- pejoratives. People overreact to such terms these days. A few years ago, I had one member damn near lose his mind because someone posted the word "retard". Uh huh. Well, retard, retard, retard, OK? I'm not going to play those games with people.

Having explained this, I'll say that I would rather that we avoid putting such things in subject lines, as it tends to make work for me, as you see in this thread.

I think it’s as simple as a gun site…blocked.

There was a time when people read something they disliked they could simply pass it up without having to dump their emotional purses out for all to see. These were the days when only stick or stones could break bones and words weren't weapons grade though.

I'll also note that it's NEVER useful to argue with the police, you aren't in a Court and his only options are to defer placing charges or locking you up. Note, piss off a police officer and he's not going to consider defering any citations or charges.

BTW, I learned this lesson many many years ago from a Ohio Highway Patrol Sergent on a coffee break at the gas station I worked at. Doing as instructed and being polite to a police officer has earned me so many warning that I cannot sum them up. At present I have 26 years of driving without any citation.

Let's not forget, though, that this guy is police and the lady in the house did well not to comply with him.

One should know his rights. And one should know when principals are less important, in the moment, than his life.

That's the truth. Know when to hold and when to fold.
When there's a door between me and them you bet you ass I'm going all non compliant and yelling for them to gtfo my property without a warrant.
On the street face to face. Well, since they can legally knock my teeth out, shoot me, or ruin my life with charges I'll be polite and hope there's someone recording the scene.

This could have gone far, far worse for the alleged atf guy. Columbus police showed considerable restraint only using the taser. I hope they didn't get thrown under the bus. Did said atf guy get charged with anything, or just cut loose?

Once the Columbus officers gained control of the situation and verified who the ATF guy was, ATF guy was released with no charges. But ATF guy, true to the character he displayed in the first place, couldn’t let it go and sued the Columbus officers.

It’s a bit sad how similar ATF guy’s interaction with the officers is to the other upstanding citizens’ interactions with police we’ve discussed on many occasions in the past.

I’m really sick of the constantly moving target WRT language. I’ve lived long enough to see “negro > colored > black > African-American”, and now kinda back to “black” again.

At one point “Queer” was off limits. Now it’s back on the menu, with it even included in the LGBTQ… string. At one point you could say “midget”, but now you have to say “little people,” notwithstanding that’s exactly what “midget” means.

I’m just getting to old to have to change my language every few years. If people get offended, then that’s their problem.

This ATF agent went to confiscate a firearm, and arrived wearing nothing that identified him as an ATF agent other than his wallet badge and ID and no body armor?

No back up?

No alert to local agencies?

Little disappointed in the lack of a good solid tazing.

His abrupt change from tough federal goon to crying and begging was funny and disgusting at the same time.

I hope someone laughs in his face everyday and uses his lines from this encounter.
