Take the core out of a $1 tire valve stem, drill a hole on the top of the can, use a wire to pass the stem to the hole from the inside, pull it set & you have a sealed vent cap.

There are screw-together ones on Amazon, but you don't really need that much complexity.

I have 8 Wavian cans. They’re top notch. Have two permanently mounted in the bed of my Tacoma. When traveling to CA on business I fill both cans in AZ before I cross the state line. When I need fuel in the LA area, I just dump both cans in the tank and I get 10 gallons which is enough to get me back to AZ state line

Amazon sells snap-in vent caps as well. Just drill a half-inch hole and push them in. I put two in each of my garage sale 5 gallon cans to get the fuel to flow better.

Yeah, this has been a pet peeve of mine, would love to see traditional fuel cans sold again. No, not for me, but everyone else.

My cans are all older or ‘modified’. The new ones never seem to live up to claims of easy usage, no spillage.

I know it’s low priority, but it would be nice to rescind any requirements that mandate such nonsense.

An easier way is to pick up old cans at garage sales.
That's what I do. You can still buy replacement spouts for the old cans on ebay.

When I used rubber tire valve stems, after a couple years gasoline started dissolving them. Replaced them with plastic, snap-in vents.

The Americanized Wavian cans sold by Midwest are $59 at Harbor Freight. These are actual Wavian cans made in Latvia. I own 8 of them. They come with crappy EPA spouts but I replaced those with old style spouts.

Has anyone used these Vevor brand cans sold by Lowe’s? I was searching for the Mavian cans after seeing this thread and these popped up for $23 (half off). They get mixed reviews so I was just wondering about real-world experience.

The seam looks off. It should not stick out like that.

There is another fairly recent thread out there containing this info, but if you don't care about the color, Atlantic British still sells the 4 pack of 20L Wavian cans for $199.95. The current ones in stock and in the 4-pk are black.

Found it...
