I second Siesta Key,

We were there twice last winter. A little touristy, but not bad. It has the best beach I’ve seen in the USA.

I tried to find a condo there for a couple of weeks this coming March, but could not find anything. People come year after year and just rebook the same place. We ended up finding a place on nearby Anna Maria Island.

Mississippi Gulf Coast. 28 mile beach, Vegas type casinos, golf, deep sea fishing, great seafood. CHEAP. Southern hospitality, low crime etc. Lots of places to shoot, very second amendment friendly. Both candidates for governor show how they reload ammo, hunt, fish and shoot pistols.

Carlsbad or, Encinitas.

I've stayed here, several times. Nicely situated, a block from the beach, dining and bars all around, easy to drive down the PCH to visit other beach communities.

I too vote for Siesta Key. And Sarasota too. The Amish restaurants are great.
Runner Up for me is Sanibel Island and then maybe up to Captiva.
Key West is touristy but I think everyone at some time should drive the Keys Highway. It is iconic.

We winter near Destin Florida. Beautiful white sand and emerald water on the Gulf. Off season in winter so prices are reasonable. Good shopping and restaurants. This coming winter will be our 3rd stay.

Caneel Bay Virgin Islands. Relaxed luxury. Little Dix Bay BVI. Expensive. Fun to relax with people of means. No children under 8. Fresh flowers in room daily. Three four star meals daily with fresh food flown in from NYC in addition to freshly caught seafood. Jacket and tie for dinner. Private lounge in St Thomas airport as you await the private ferry to Saint Johns. You will not see any riff raff. The Dupont yacht is a frequent visitor. Worth every penny.

Please ignore above until end of 2020 as they are still closed due to the extensive hurricane damage. I will go back when it opens.

IME you'll have a tough time finding warm beach weather in Jan and Feb in the US unless you go to extreme S Florida.

Bingo. Still in the US of A, yet a whole different world.

He said "not too touristy." Key West is the single most touristy spot I've ever been in my life.

Stay on one of the smaller islands in the chain, then. That's what is great: the Keys can be as touristy or as quiet as you'd like.

It'a my wife's 40th and our 15th anniversary in December so, on SF recommendation, we're going to Maui. We went to Oahu on our honeymoon. Can't wait.

If Kamalame Cay is in your budget it will be a vacation that you will never forget.

It is definitely NOT in my budget, but I had a three day / two night stay there, on somebody else's nickel -- I was flying on contract for a company and took some clients there. The number crunchers at the company decided that is was less expensive to keep me there for a few days than it would have been for me to fly the airplane back to home base, and then return a few days later to pick up the passengers.

I had a small cottage -- one half of a duplex -- for myself. It cme with a golf cart to explore the island (cay). A mini refrigerator in the room stuffed to the last cubic inch with beer, wine, soft drinks, a variety of cheeses, etc.

The meals were phenomenal. The woman who ran the kitchen showed us the snack bar and the liquor bar, both stocked with high quality items, available 24 hours, no cash register, not even any slips to record what you took.

Fresh fish, caught right there, island-grown vegetables, they ran a small bakery operation on site.

A young lady made the rounds of the cottages every afternoon, dropping off fresh-baked cookies.

I wish I could afford to take my wife and go back there for a week. The goal at that place seems to be to spoil the guests beyond belief, and they succeed.
