Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. Should sound familiar and be the creed of someone who calls himself Chistian...

A great many churches are not actually religious organizations, but merely social clubs, like The Elks Lodge, or Sons of Herman, etc.

Oh, they go through the motions, all right, sing songs, say prayers, hold communion, occasional weddings, funerals and other rites. If they didn’t they might forego the tax exemption. But getting too far into the details of religious beliefs gets too personal, fosters bickering, divisiveness, dispute, unhappiness. Many people are uncomfortable worrying about some or all of their friends going to hell.

Worse, they end up in a congregation of true believers, constant Bible quoting, prayers, strictures on various behaviors. Very troubling, indeed.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Statues of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints probably make MANY atheists feel "uncomfortable". Will they be required to take them down ?

How about if they just give Satan "equal representation" ?

What a bunch of retards.

Someone should relentlessly troll this church by dressing up like a pissed off George Washington and attending every single service.

My email sent yesterday:

Dear Rev. Dr. Noelle York-Simmons,

I heard that the Church is going to remove the Plaque to George Washington. I’m puzzled, why? And what is next to be removed so that a few may feel safe? I don’t think that George Washington is going to raise from the dead, round up your flock back into slavery, as from the photos on the web site show no descendants of slaves. I do think that as the Social Justice Warriors march on to remove the symbols of hate they are also targeting those of faith. At what point do they come to your Church and demand the removal of the Bible, Cross and those teaching the word of God and Christ. History is history, the good and the bad. I guess we should start to remove pages from the Bible that talk of hate, slavery, sex and unkind things done to mankind. I feel we should learn from history, not hide from it. Please pass on my feelings to your Elders.

Yours in Faith,

Me (I used my full name for email)

Oh, mercy...

Then there's this:
quote:
York-Simmons would not discuss whether there were parishioners who advocated for keeping the plaques. “I’m not going to speak for my parishioners. We have been through an intense process of listening to our community’s thoughts on all sides of the complicated issue,” she said.

Sounds to me like appeasing the community took precedence over the parishioners' opinions. Or am I misreading that?

Earlier in this thread someone mentioned congregation size. The Washington Post article also mentions the congregation has some 1800 members.

Thank you for posting the plaque photo, Mr. Shugart. I'm tempted to print it and hang it in my office.

God bless America.

Your comment is subtle, but likely meaningful.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

KJV Matt 7:21-23

For fucks sake when does this madness end? What's next book burnings?

What do they think will happen after they take the plaque down? Everyone's going to be fat, dumb, and happy???

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." From the comments just starting in the last day - looks like she has been found on the tube. This announcement is dated July 2016, basically took a little over a year to come to this plaque removal decision. I suspect more input is coming.

Mount Rushmore is also one of their goals of the progressive socialists!

You know I have said this before look at where the funding of all of these protests are coming from. Busses bringing the protesters to the protests from out of state. Soros is funneling his billions paying these protesters to protest, paying for these busses. Now he has transferred 18 billion to continue his destroying this country well after he is dead and burning in Hell.

I was born, baptized and raised Episcopalian. I recognize nothing of the church in which I once found a home.

Episcopalians have become the weak-kneed, cowering apologists of the Protestant denominations. Next, they will apologize for being Christian monotheists.

The religion that once powered the British Empire across the globe and which was the faith of the founders and leading light of manifest destiny has fallen. It has abandoned faith and hope for doubt and questioning.

The lanterns burn dim in the city on a hill.

"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

The Episcopal church left me as well.
Today, I do not recognize the church I grew up in and that is why I became a Pentecostal.

From what I experienced, the Episcopals pick and choose the parts of The Bible they like and ignore what they don't like.
