… via text, of course, because they’re both in their late twenties. Never got text or call from him before. He recently moved in with her.

We are scheduled to meet a a cigar lounge at 2 pm today. Just he and me.

I texted (of course) my daughter: “Whatever shall he and I speak about?”

Question is…is he worthy?

Poor form texting your daughter IMHO.

He may have planned on surprising her at some point but wanted your blessing first.

But congratulations (if they turn out to be in order)

I do like him… nice guy, respects my daughter. I’m comfortable with him.

According to my other child, the young man in question is quite the New York City liberal…they both live in Brooklyn. Neither he nor I have never uttered any political statements when we’ve been together… even if he and I completely disagree politically, that wouldn’t be a deal breaker.

I’m going to give my consent without reservation. I doubt we’ll ever have a political discussion. Living in Connecticut I’m used to ignoring ridiculous statements from deep blue liberals.

I do plan to take him to the range. I’m almost certain he’s never handled a gun. THAT might be an interesting day.

At the time I texted my daughter, I knew she was aware he and I would be meeting. So it’s no surprise to her.

Not knowing your feelings of the young man, I would gladly accept, if you enjoy a good cigar and a good drink. Any communication is good regardless of him be worthy of your daughter or not. Have 3 step daughters that I consider my own, I only like 1 of their husbands/boy friend lol, I learned that I don’t have to necessarily like them, as long as they take good care of the girls and treat them right. That being said, I made it clear to them that no other option was acceptable for my girls. It’s worked well so far

We’re meeting in Brooklyn, so ANY kind of carry is out.

He’s very sports-oriented and plays organized baseball with his brother(s), IIRC. Not a soy boy, thank goodness. My daughter doesn’t go for that type.

You could alter the meeting place to the range and have him ask you there

Make it a combo pack! He takes you for cigars and whiskey one day, you take him to the range another day. THEN you get to have "that talk." Cool

Seriously, though, if he's a good fella then congratulations to your daughter and to you. May your family grow in great health and prosperity.

God bless America.

When they moved in together, potentially the clock was ticking. My youngest has done the same, moved in with her BF and his dog. It's just a matter of time for me.

I expect one day my daughter will just mention it, 'oh BTW, were getting married in June, bla bla..'

Her BF isn't a gun guy. Likes Bowling and Billiards. I can live with that. Her treats her well.

Best of luck to you and them. A happy daughter is a happy life for you.
