I should listen to your ramblings more seriously. Like your distaste of things electric and how SF members are going woke.

Like your thoughtful insights on electric vehicles and lawn equipment. It started out with me purchasing an electric weed eater. And now I’m attracted to other men. I didn’t notice it at first. I thought by buying electric I might keep from the motor being as hot in the summer and wouldn’t have to deal with spring carborator issues. So mid last summer, I purchased an Ego weed eater. The spool load function was awesome.

But, then I began to notice it. I started commenting to other men on how good their shoes looked. I purchased an Ego push mower. I started listening to Black Sabbath albums backwards. Then I purchased a 16 inch Ego chainsaw and started whistling show tunes. I’m totally out of control. No carburetor issues. Not external heat issues. Not having to purchase gas and oil, and I’m not noticing an increase in my electric bill.

I should have listened to your wise counsel against the evils of going electric. Now, I guess I’ll just have to sit here and count the money I saved.

Oh well.

Lmao

I got no dog in this hunt, other than I think ORC is probably right on the inflation number.

Who also lives on the edge of a deep deep dark forest. Your ego tools are purely that over there. Over there you need a dozen v6 turbo chainsaws and gasoline/oil. I’ve seen that part of the world and it’s a forest you don’t walk into lightly.

I bought an Ego string trimmer last year, primarily for ease of use for my wife and the auto line feed feature. Maybe mine was defective but I still have no desire to purchase an electric chainsaw and love to use my Husqvarna 550XP Mark 2 gas chainsaw. I even kept my bigger Stihl trimmer for the heavier duty work. I really don’t care much about shoes and still dislike show tunes. Should I ask for my money back or should I just be happy?

Sorry jl you are offended by my lack of respect for your chicom throw away elect goodies. I am glad you like them.

Keep buying them and supporting them if it makes you feel good.

By doing so you are supporting what you say you are against. But that is something that obviously you cannot see through the trees.

And I couldn't care less who you like or do what with Eek

I think you must kiss bill gates shoes every night. Big Grin

Btw, not sure why you are so angry about things I posted today.

We have both been here a long time. I do not agree with everything you post. But have respect for you. I will leave it there.

All kidding and joking aside, that EGo trimmer really is great. For regular old around the house use, I can’t imagine that anyone would need anything more. Not having to deal with gassing it up, worrying bout cleaning a carb after winter, manually spooling line, etc is really nice and the performance is great. For the area around my pond where I need something heavier duty I’ve got my Stihl bicycle handle heavy duty trimmer that I usually run with a metal brush blade, but I’m pleased with the addition of the EGo trimmer. It also makes it nice because I can mow the lawn while my wife trims without me having to start a gas trimmer for her or restart if she sets it down, etc. If I could buy a made in USA version, even at twice or more the price, I would. But unfortunately the fact that there isn’t a US made alternative means that I will buy the EGo because the auto feeding line is a feature that I will not be without in the future.

I too would pay more for made in USA or Europe or anyplace other than China. But corporate America really sold out and there really isn’t much day to day stuff that is still made here. I tend to looks to European brands next. But generally have to settle for made in Asia. Some is okay. I die a little each time I’m forced to buy something made in prc.

The ego weed whacker fits my needs - annual use for 1 day.

We have a local diner that up until last year was owned by the same family, it was always very popular and busy and very good food for a good price, nothing fancy, a lot good of PA Dutchy stuff and diner fare.

The woman who was the second generation owner/operator was in her 70’s and wanted to finally retire so she sold it about a year ago to a family that owns several other diners in the area. They didn’t really make many changes other than letting the waitresses change out of very old fashioned and outdated 1950’s era white waitress informs to black pants and black t-shirt and they unfortunately DID eliminate the awesome baked goods the diner featured as they brought in their own pies and cakes, cream puffs etc from their other operations.

Last time we ate there maybe 6 months ago it was still booming and lots of regulars, you could barely get in the door on a Saturday night with people lined up waiting for tables and booths.

We decided to go eat there with the kids last night, Saturday night at 7 and it was clearly apparent that something was wrong. It was DEAD inside. One waitress on duty and maybe 3 other tables when we sat down.

I opened up the menu and saw the reason; the PRICES. They were WAY WAY higher than last time we ate there, now I noticed that under the old owner they did seem a little on the low side for what you got like she wasn’t keeping up on them. The new owners jacked most things on that menu up 50+% though and I think it totally scared people off.

Now I’m not sure they’ll make it, place has been in business since like 1950.

The food was not great either, not like I remember getting. The whole place just felt sad and abandoned. Frown

You’re right. I didn’t even notice. I was just responding to recent posts. Sorry.

I’ve noticed a number of brew pubs around whose prices are a little higher and also less busy than before. One thing I noticed, and I’ve been okay to date, is that instead of raising prices dramatically, seems like they are asking for default tips of 20%.

I’m okay so far - restaurant is taking a hit on margins but asking customers to give more in tips for the wait staff to make up for less customers. I want to keep my favorites in business so will do what I can. But a double hit of raised prices and more tips may be a challenge for my budget.

That's too bad about the diner. In my opinion though, it may be a combination of other things including the higher prices. If you have a favorite local restaurant, you can understand if they have to raise their prices these days.

I had noticed in the last 1-2 months, the crowd at my VFW for our weekly Friday night dinners had gotten smaller.
I didn’t connect the dots until now. Perhaps fewer people ( live in an area with a large number of possibly fixed income retirees) see fit to eat out and see it as a luxury out of the budget. We have always tried to offer a hearty meal at a good price, and our commander recently posted a sign indicating price increases due to increased supply costs.
