Six Days on the Road |
I’m in need of a new coffee maker and am looking for ideas as to what to get. I have been using a French press but am tired of dealing with the clean up so want a drip machine that makes decent coffee. Ideally I would like one that doesn’t come from China, if that is even possible. Is there such a thing that won’t break the bank?

A lot of Bunn brand coffee makers are still made in US. https://www.coffeeble.com/gear...-makers/made-in-usa/ ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Technivorm Mocchamaster Any of the models would work fine. I got the one linked a while back and love how simple it is. Makes some great coffee too. Pricey but well worth it. ___________________________ No thanks, I've already got a penguin.

Bonavita Metropolitan Simple, SCAA-rated, works great for me for the last couple years with daily use.

I’ve looked into both Bunn and Moccamaster. Looking at reviews on Amazon, it looks like most of the Bunns are just assembled in the U.S., at least the consumer models. I guess that is better than nothing but was hoping to avoid Chinese altogether. As far as the Moccamaster goes, I’m not sure I’m ready to spend that much on a coffee maker, but I may wind up going that route if I can’t find a reasonable alternative.

I'm in the make-one-cup, drink it, make one cup, drink it, etc. My Technivorm is in the basement and I'll likely not go back to a brewer. Visiting an in-law, her Mr Coffee took forever ... for her a Tech-knockoff, it broke, they sent another, that broke, they sent a THIRD, that broke ... she went to the hardware store and got a new Mr Coffee, which works better that the old one. Yes, likely Chinese. My HIC Harold Import Co coffee cone (plastic, 2-cup) is made in Holland, and the butane hot plate is S. Korean. Kettle, 15+ years old, from Thailand. Makes a fast, fresh cup.

I love my Ninja coffee maker. Very practical. It has a one cup setting, travel mug, half a pot, and a full pot. The newer models probably have more. I've had mine for a couple of years now. Probably made in china though. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

It's definitely in the spend/cry once category, but we have LOVED ours. Bought it in 2016, still works exactly perfectly. Actually thought to check the brew temp a couple months ago after a once-a-quarter descaling and it is still spot on at ~200. No "normal" drip maker would ever achieve that. It really does make a difference. Caution - does lead to looking for better beans to maximize benefit however.....

Like Alan, I am enjoying a Ninja. Mine is the CM401 model which is SCA certified for proper brewing temperatures. Picked it up on sale during last year's Black Friday events to replace a dying 14 year old unit that also brewed at the proper temperatures. Very happy with it. I have a Cuisinart single serving unit - have had it for a year and I make three or more cups through it every day - I use the refillable Solofil baskets and buy ground coffee it was cheap at $99

I really can't say enough how impressed I am with the Ninja. When it comes time to replace it, whenever that might be, I will be buying another Ninja for sure. I have no doubt that the Technivorm is a superior brewer, but for me the Ninja is perfect. The one cup serving option is also a must for the wife. It's also super convenient when I'm getting ready to head out the door I can set my travel mug under it, select the travel mug size, and let it brew while I'm getting ready. The specialty measuring scoop that comes with it also measures the perfect amount of coffee for each setting. It's a really smart machine. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

Bonavita Connoisseur fit the bill for me. I don't need a large maker, I don't like coffee that has been "cooking" on it's hot plate so a thermal carafe is what I wanted. Plus I'm tired of replacing the paper thin glass carafes that break all the time. So my requirements were it have a 6-8 cup stainless thermal carafe, and brew the coffee with HOT water. I bought this one a few months ago for a little over $100 and really like it. http://bonavitaworld.com/products/connoisseur I can't recall but it's likely made in China..... I've looked at the Bonavitas and they get good reviews. The one negative is that they are made in China, but I'm starting to think my only option for one that isn't is the Technivorm, so I may have to rethink that. I will look into the Ninjas.

It is 20 years old. Hybrid of plastic parts, as some of the older ones broke and my buddy robbed some from a broken machine. It works perfectly but is visually more suited to a construction trailer.

Mine also has a swing out frother which works great and is extremely easy to detach and clean. And too includes a metal mesh filter that I've come to like better than my Melitta #4 paper ones. Technivorm Moccamaster. I've owned just about every type of coffeemaker and I've concluded that Technivorm is the best. It's NOT a throwaway chinese piece of junk, it will last a lifetime and replacement parts and service are available. Having said all that, I own 2 Moccamasters, one for a second location besides my home. And having said that, I've not used my Moccamasters much at all lately. Trying to cut back on my coffee consumption, I've discovered and love using a really unique single cup pourover, the OXO Pour Over, and it's less than $20. a #2 filter, freshly ground coffee, heat water to 200-205 degrees, pour into the cup and the little holes are sized and timed to disperse the water around the coffee grounds. When done, just rinse things out and set out to air dry. EZ PZY! Here's a link for one: Link Link to original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLvQxc2fIak

I have been using a Cuisinart 14 cup from Costco that has a cone shaped basket. Cost was under $70.00. It works quite well. __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154
