There never will be a national “Third Party” in the USA; our governmental structure doesn’t allow it. We do NOT have a Parliamentary system where the leader of the majority party is the head of the political government. Third Parties can exist at local level as a separate movement for a while, but then are subsumed into one of the major local parties.

The only way a new political party can gain traction is for a current party to self-destruct and be replaced; and the Dems seem to be doing just that. The last time a political party self-destructed was the Whig Party in the late 1840s and early 1850s, which then allowed disaffected individuals to form the Republican Party.

Trump was able to message and then seize control of the apparatus of the Republican Party. Elon doesn’t have the charisma nor the wherewithal to do that, and he pissed off too many Dems, and Republicans won’t trust him now. It’s D-O-A.

Um, you didn't say I was wrong and I didn't say "I told you so". But we both read the message loud and clear.

In other news, Elon only has to drag a small % away from Trump, à la Ross Perot, for the mid terms to be a shit show, and that is a BFD! T$ is enough of a hot potato for me to stick with, he (WE) don't need the distraction!

Oh, boy. Gloom and doom. Tell us more. Go ahead. Tell us how everything is going to fall apart.

We've got victories all over the place, but don't bother to savor and appreciate those trivial things. No, instead, tell us about some possibility in the not-near future, with a party which exists nowhere but on paper, and which may amount to nothing.

Go ahead

It's not doom and gloom. Yes, we are stacking wins. But, it's something that rears its ugly head in the republican/conservative circle, we fail to play the long game. Midterms and 2028 are the long game and not giving the richest man in the world our due diligence just like the dems didn't is not something we can afford, even if it's a miniscule chance that he gets anything off the ground.

You don't know what's going to happen. That party is a big bunch of nothing right now, less than a week old, exists only on paper. It might go nowhere at all, but you're already scared of it.

This is damn silly.

I'm not scared of it, I am scared of us not paying attention to things that can come back to bite us in the ass.

And this stuff about not giving Musk "our due diligence"...

You wanted President Trump to kiss Musk's ass and withdraw the OBBB when Musk threw his tantrum about it? Musk didn't get his way, so we're screwed?

Tell me- what should we have done to placate the Ketamine Kid? He's not the POTUS. No one elected him.

The Republican party is terrible. The only thing empowering the Republican party is Trump. What we actually need is the emergence of a MAGA party. It'll be interesting to see how our politics evolves now that Trump is no longer a candidate. Without Trump, it really is kind of a uniparty in DC.

MAGA isn't just one person, and you guys need to slow down, appreciate what's happening right now, and for God's sake, have some faith.

Maybe due diligence is the wrong turn of phrase, but nothing I said should be inferred as me thinking Trump or anyone should kiss Musk's ass. Nor have I said we should placate him.

I have rattled a hornets nest that I should not have here. It is best that I bow out gracefully and acquiesce that my communication was not the greatest. I meant no harm.

Well if you don't think we should be placating Musk, tell me how you think we could have avoided his puerile tantrum, which, by the way, including implying that Donald Trump is a pedophile, with his bullshit claim that the man's name is in the Epstein files.

This is not a person who was behaving rationally. Tell me what we could have done to prevent him from throwing another tantrum with this American Party bullshit.

You've come this far, don't back away now. If you believe we could have avoided this "American Party" BS, tell me how.

This is how it comes across to me. I think this is going to fizzle out like a teenager's "phase."

Let's thank him for the good he did with Twitter X and DOGE, but his fixed term of service as an advisor - never meant to go beyond that - is over.

I've always thought of Elon Musk as kind of a modern day Howard Hughes. Brilliant, but eccentric, and maybe a bit emotionally immature. I think his heart is in the right place, and he wants what's best for the country. He's stepped up to help when things were on the line, but he's not got the best interpersonal skills, and doesn't handle conflict well. Nobody's perfect. Trump has some similar personality shortcomings...it's probably what makes them both strong leaders, but it's not surprising to me at all that they eventually clashed.

I think Musk's support matters less at this point than it did a few months ago. I still wish they could make up and get along, but I think President Trump is in a solid position at this point without him. He campaigned on a platform, and he's following through like no other President in my lifetime. He's doing exactly what he promised, and the voters are loving it. Musk helped him get started, but he doesn't need him to complete his agenda because now he's established. If President Trump keeps doing what he's doing, we're going to keep seeing wins.

Lol. Of course you didn’t say “I told you so”, but let’s be honest. We’re not middle schoolers here, and anyone with a functioning brain knows why you resurrected this thread. Roll Eyes

Oh, and you’re still wrong. Still haven’t proved that Musk is a socialist, which was why you started this thread. Pulling up your old thread to tell us he’s a crazy unstable guy with his antics, which everyone on here pretty sure already knew, doesn’t prove you are right about anything. I will always appreciate what Musk did with buying Twitter and with his massive financial help during President Trump’s campaign, but he’s still an unstable individual.

I agree with the Howard Hughes comparison. And I think he is unhappy that many of the governmental spending cuts he has championed have not progressed to his satisfaction. Sour grapes! An effective third political party? I doubt it!
