Figured Whitey would be the target. Whether true or not.
If you’re gonna get accused, might as well work up a thick, mucusy, hack that a person with chronic bronchitis would be proud of bring it all up from the lungs.
Something Will Smiff would wear well.

That's not correct. Smith says the actor "improvised it".
quote:
And then he ad-libbed and spit in the middle of my chest.
On top of that, look at where Smith was when he made this claim. It is crystal clear what was his intent with making this claim, and why he said it where he said it. And he got "emotional" about it, so, this was not supposed to be in the scene, and Whitey upset poor Will with his racist act. Come on. Smith is claiming that the actor masked his racism by making it part of the scene.
The headline is not crap. The headline is a product of Will Smith's desperate bid to get some sympathy and to feel as if there is someone or some group who has not rejected him.
Put away your little pop gun, go back and re-read the article. If you don't accept this, then tell me why the other actor's race was even mentioned.
Wouldn't a real good actor think, damn, that was a good ad-lib moment, based on life as it was back then? He should give the "white" actor credit....assuming it really happened at all.

Every time I think of that happening at the Oscars I am blown away that someone knowing the situation they are in can become so unhinged that they lose complete emotional control. Just blows me away.
Look at how the Academy had seated Smith and his bitch of a wife- like they were royalty holding court. They had them in these oversize chairs in front of everyone else. Smith felt as if he owned the place and given the way the Academy fawned over him and his no-talent wife, why wouldn't he? Everything happening on that stage- everything that happened the entire night up until the point Smith lost it- he felt as if all of it was for him alone.
Don't get me wrong. I am not excusing his behavior. I'm simply pointing out that the fawning over Smith did not help matters in any way.
And now, when he gets in front of "his people" he tries to gain sympathy. The fact that there is any awards show based upon race is really screwed up. There should not be any such thing.
I still say it's fake news being spun to create yet another racial identity narrative. Improvised or not, even according to his own account this was not about some white racist spitting on Will Smith. It was at worst an actor spitting on another actor in character.

"It was the second day of shooting and 110 degrees," he said. "I was in a scene with one of the White actors, and we had our lines, and the actor decided to ad-lib. So, we’re doing the scene. I did my line. He did his line. And then he ad-libbed and spit in the middle of my chest. If I had pearls on, I definitely would’ve clutched them. I wanted to say, ‘Antoineeeeee,’ but I stopped, and I realized that Peter (his character) couldn’t have called the director."
"I sat there, and I took a deep breath, and we did take two, and the actor felt that the ad-lib had gone well. So, we do take two. I do my line. He does his line and spits in the middle of my chest again. I just held in that moment, and there was a part — it makes me teary right now — there was a part of me that was grateful that I got to really understand. And then, in the distance, I hear a voice, and Antoine says, ‘Hey, let’s do a take without the spit.’ And in that moment, I knew that God was real," Smith related.
Actors are supposed to tap into their emotional well and pull-out whatever they need to affect the scene. Smith isn't a trained actor but, merely a rapper with an engaging personality; well, he was during his Fresh Prince days. Now that he's known more for the movies he's been in, he's attempting to gain sympathy to the emotions he felt, with the dark cloud of his slapping Rock on stage hanging overhead. Welcome to acting Smith, see you at this year's Summer Stock? More drama's in the future?

All of that took place last year. Smith is banned from any Academy functions for ten years.
What's happening is that he's looking for validation, and I guess he thinks race-baiting is fertile ground to get him sympathy. As far as I'm concerned, though, this stunt just puts him farther down in the hole he's dug for himself. He's not attempting to counter anything except a lack of attention and sympathy. He went from being Hollywood royalty to an angry jerk in about 30 seconds and he's having a difficult time handling it.
The Academy Awards are coming up and Smith will be conspicuous by his absence, and he's trying to counter this by getting a different kind of attention- the good kind.
I used to really like Will Smith. Now I've no use for him at all.
