Electric provider is offering some really good rebates on these three smart thermostats. I have never used one but willing to try one out at the prices they are offering. Which one if any is better than the other? Like app interface for remote access. Thats all I am really interested in is the remote access through an app. I would rather not have to have a google email account or google account if not needed, but I suspect with the Nest that will be mandatory, just don't want to have to baby sit another email address.

These are some the ones offered. They have about 10 choices in these four brands. Prices are after rebates.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) with Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) Model GA05171-US ... $60

ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential Model EB-STATE7-01...$25

Sensi smart thermostat Model ST55U... $25

Honeywell Home T9 Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Sensor... $53

Thanks

I have a Nest, but I have to say, I no longer use it in the learning mode. I found it wasn't reliable, but there are times I'm not here, so it may be confusing the the "smart T-stat". I found a youtube video that showed how to turn it into a regular t-stat, but still controllable from my phone while away. I like it now!

I have a Honeywell that works pretty good.

It’s nice to be able to control the temperature right from your phone app and never have to go near the thermostat.

When we go away on vacation, I’ll set it to be like 78-80 as we leave then set it back to 72 on our way home.

I have a Sensi ST75W for the past year and a half. I have not had any complaints with it. It works like a normal thermostat, as in, it does not learn or alter your system. Home Depot had it on clearance for $75 and with the electric company rebate, it worked out to be $25.

I have a Nest and it works fine. I can set it when away from home.

They require a 24v five wire system.

We use ecobee's on three different buildings. Rock solid and app software is reliable and easy to use.

Ecobee at my house, got it free at work & was an upgrade over the super basic Honeywell.
The bee is a lot easier to program, and is compatible with the 2-stage system we have.

Honeywell. Sticking with a company that was making thermostats before WiFi/internet, etc. Mine has worked without fail for 11 years. The app is probably rudimentary compared to new shit but you can change the temps. Set a schedule, etc. K.I.S.S.

I have them in our two homes and I like the ability to remotely adjust the thermostats when we’re away.

I researched them also several months ago, but didn’t pull the trigger. Some negatives I saw were batteries needed changing often.

I just want to remotely set a temp and not anything more. Also, wide wants something that looks more updated than our current dump thermostat.

I started with Nest and switched to Ecobee. Never a problem with Ecobee and I like the app and scheduling.

Believe they sold that part of the business and new Honeywell t-stats are cheap and made overseas. At least according to the guy who owns my hvac contractor; they had me keep my original one from 2004 vs selling me a new one when replacing my upstairs heat pump last year

I’ve had great luck with the Sensi in the past, and recently on a new build ended up with Ecobee.
Of those two I would pick the Sensi, mainly because it has better ability to sit distinct cool and heat programs. The other one forces a certain gap and temperatures, and has them arranged by time of day rather than the type of heating or cooling.

Before you get too excited about those rebates, look at the fine print. In many cases, those require that you give them the ability to control temperatures during peak load times.

We tried the Nest, it wouldn't stay connected to the wife's app on her Iphone. Tried another one thinking it was faulty, same thing, we couldn't figure it out. Bought the Sensi and it has been flawless for a couple of years now

I'd never ever install one of these, and this is why.

I have Qty. 2 - Honeywell RTH9585WF WiFi Thermostats, obtained at a SIGNIFICANT discount ($1.99 each, so $3.98 Total Cost, and NOT a pay up front rebate program!) through my energy provider.

In my case, the ability of the utility to 'control' your usage is an 'Opt-In' program...You get decide whether or not to participate, and at least w/ my utility (Eversource), even if you do 'Opt-In' you can still toggle it off/override it, and control your HVAC as you wish in case you feel the need for more cool/heat during any 'peak demand events' if you so desire. I did NOT 'Opt-In'... Wink

Note: All of these WiFi Connected Thermostats need a 'C-wire' for constant 24V, so keep that in mind. I thought I was all set when I did the installation, as I had sufficient/extra conductors at the equipment, but learned that the Plumber (I know! Roll Eyes ) damaged one conductor in the cable in a wall somewhere along the run, and I had to run new wire from my basement to the attic to get my 2nd floor to function properly. I did my install in December, and my Boiler was running regardless of whether the Thermostat was calling for heat, which meant reinstall the old 2-wire Thermostat until I could get 3-wires to the MBR upstairs.

I have one of these.

This is not a "smart" thermostat in that it does not learn patterns, nor detect people or movement in the house, but it is programmable with twenty-eight time periods (four each, seven days) and is WiFi connected, so I can monitor and / or change temperature from any place that I have a WiFi or cellular connection for the iPhone app.

When my wife and I are both away from the house, I set the thermostat to a very energy conserving temperature, then when we are on the way home, I reset it to a comfortable setting.

Very happy with our Ecobee. Got it several years ago for a good price at Costco, their app is great and it also works with Apple Home.

I've had a newer version of that Honeywell for a good while. When traveling during the winter, I love being able to stop about five miles from home and turn up the heat so it’s warm again when I get there.
