Was big NEST fan for years. Now that Google took over I am using four Ecobees and each of them have 1 or 2 remote sensors in addition to the primary unit sensor. So I essentially have temp and occupancy monitored in every major room and area of the house. Keep in mind that the Ecobee essential model you have listed does not accept remote sensors if you have need for that. Remote sensors are nice if you have large house that parts are not used frequently or you have a house that gets hot or cold on one side during the day as the sun moves. The occupancy feature is nice in that if I don't use a part of the house during the day that area is adjusted a few degrees but when I go into the area it senses me and kicks back up to match the occupied parts of the house.

Good point on the sensors. That is nice with the Ecobee. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

I have had a Nest for about ten years. Works great, I monitor the inside temperature in my house in Michigan when wintering in Florida. If the furnace were to quit, I would call my neighbor, when the repair guy would get there, he would meet him at the door and let him in after I disable the burglar alarm. He would stay with him until he is done, relock the door, and call me with the details of the repair, and for me to reset the alarm. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, MGO Annual Member

I have two Ecobees and they both have 3 sensors due to different levels and room occupancy. I love them. Great app as well. Easy to use. I installed them myself. Can't recommend any higher.

I think the sensors would be more useful if your AC has the damper system. Otherwise the cool side of the house would get too cold, etc.

You can actually set it to average or to prioritize different sensors at different times.

Thanks for the feedback. No Nest/Google I'll look at others. I'll read the fine print for the opt in or not for provider control at peak times. I can see the sensors being handy for a dual damper system or a multi unit system. The house it is going in has neither and is small. Probably do the Sensi or Ecobee seem to have simple app use. Exactly. So in our case the one in front of house/den/living areas is the one tied to system during day, but one in bedroom for the overnight time. Works great! You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Nest for me, 10 years on the same thermostat, since I live alone it's nice to not be cooling the house while I am at work, have a Nest smoke detector and two cameras. All work great.

So you know, when that awesome smoke detector reaches its 10th birthday there are no more like it. Google did what google does and got rid of the best smoke/CO detector on the market.

You Karma'd that to me back in Sept 2024, when I posted about replacing my Nest Learning after it went kaput from falling off the wall, again thank you very much for that... I was able to get it to connect to the Wifi and it runs through Alexa's app, which is fine as that app runs much of the access to the wifi exterior lights, Blink Camera access, and it's great for setting cooking timers. This Nest isn't a learning thermostat, but it does have some programable features but it does work well there are two Nest Models, be sure which one qualifies. https://store.google.com/categ...thermostats?hl=en-US So far the Nest has been good, have a neighbor with Ecobee and he likes it... And you can control the base Nest unit using the Google Home appThis message has been edited. Last edited by: HRK,

I had a nest at my old home, it would periodically show no voltage and die, this happened on more than one thermostat. It took an electrician a few trips to resolve, it would fix then die again. new home went with ecobee, and it has been rock solid. __________________________

I have three T-9s one for each zone and additional sensors in other rooms so I can balance the heat better. Works fine. I also have a Honeywell similar to the Honeywell RTH9585WF posted. It also works fine but used a different app and does not have extra sensors available.

Had NEST for many years. Will upgrade both of mine to the next gen early fall. They work for me, trouble free. Clean. Love the remote access. I have no reason to change. 0:01

The 50 y.o. tiny town heating and air conditioner "expert" Told Dan that it's the only way to go when installing a. New HVAC system. So 80 y.o. Dan said ok, go ahead. After 12 days of very unsatisfactory performance and six house calls and 12 phone conversations. The went back to the 1975 technology. And all is well . Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Honeywell did not sell off it's thermostats business. It spun up a separate division called Resideo. That division can sell directly to home/end users. You are supposed to be a contractor to by the other line of Honeywell thermostats. The T9/T10 thermostat is an example. The T10 is very similar to the T9 but is only sold via distribution, and it has some features that would only be useful for large commercial type installations.

They have a solution for that called the Nest Power Connector. I also had the same experience of 6guns and disabled learning mode and just set up a schedule. Other than that, I liked the Nest.

I have a Honeywell, I think it's a T6. In the first few years there were some issues where it would lose WiFi connection and I had to do a full reset to get it back. That happened once when I was on vacation and I was unable to turn my AC back down. We came home to a very warm house. It's been good for a while now so they must have pushed some new firmware. The "Resideo" (Android) app leaves much to be desired. There is no dark mode, so if you want to adjust something in the middle of the night you get to stare at the nice white background. Note you can use some 3rd party apps (i.e. Samsung SmartThings) to control the thermostat. The app also offers a vacation mode, which sounds like a good idea. It'll let you hold the AC at 85 for a defined period and then go back to the regular schedule. The problem is the thermostat displays "vacation" and helpfully tells anybody walking by when you're coming back. Obviously a security problem. Finally, they make a C-wire adapter for those lacking that saved me a big headache pulling new thermostat wire, and there was an offer in the box with the thermostat to get the adapter for free.

We had issues with our Nest. But part of it was dual zones on single speed HVAC system. Had a zone splitter coming off the HVAC. We had the whole HVAC system replaced and it came with an American Standard box for both zones. Zero issues with it. But every HVAC guy we ever had come look at a issue. Said they had nothing but issues with Nest. Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.
