The people are apathetic and satisfied that the GOP is in charge around here. They are not paying enough attention to eclipse those who organize. Romney people were active while the rest slept. Those who have any interest at all have it piqued 2 weeks before the general election and mindlessly pull the GOP lever. It's frustrating to watch. It's alarming to consider the ramifications.

Yeah. Utah is relaxed and not paying attention. They have no idea that we just elected the next John McCain.

My only advice to those in Utah is to have a strong drink and get Romney elected.

I cannot imagine that Utah could not have done better but the GOP is made up of the citizens of Utah. Those of you who live there should not blame the GOP unless you were actively supporting someone else. Even then you are blaming fellow citizens not some vague, nebulous, "They".

As Pogo said: "We have met the enemy and it is us".

Parenthetically, I do not believe that Romney is anything like McCain, McCain disagrees as a matter of principle, in fact disagreeing is the only principle McCain has.

I take solace in the fact that Romney will most certainly vote better than 90% of the time with the President. I believe that. What worries me is having a senator that I cannot depend on to protect the 2nd amendment 100% of the time.

I'm sure you are correct. He will vote just like Jeff Flake did. He's good for the simple nuts and bolts easy republican stuff but things like Immigration, and guns, healthcare...? When it comes to the important things I suspect the Romney couldn't help climbing up on his soap box to shower us with his golden ego and morality.

Not since Trump got elected. It has been personal each and every time. His vote allowed Obamacare to continue just to get back at Trump; to hell with the rest of us.

Even before Trump, I've never seen McCain exhibit any "principles" other than his never ending quest to secure his seat on the gravy train.

He can't die soon enough.

Romney slams Trump's character in new op-ed

Incoming Utah Senator and former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney slammed President Trump's character on Tuesday, writing in a Washington Post op-ed that it fell short of what the country needed.

"With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring," Romney wrote.

Romney, who criticized Trump in the run up to the 2016 election, said the events of the past month, including the departures of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Chief of Staff John Kelly, marked a worrying decline for Trump's presidency.

"On balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office," Romney wrote.

Romney argued that Trump's "shortfall" set a poor example for America's "public character," while alienating U.S. allies.

"I do not intend to comment on every tweet or fault. But I will speak out against significant statements or actions that are divisive, racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions," he wrote. "To reassume our leadership in world politics, we must repair failings in our politics at home. That project begins, of course, with the highest office once again acting to inspire and unite us," he went on.

Romney added that not all of Trump's policies were "misguided," but said the president should "unite us and inspire us to follow 'our better angels.'"

"To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow 'our better angels,'" he wrote.

Romney's comments come two days before he will be sworn into the Senate on Thursday. With the op-ed, Romney seems poised to become one of Trump's top Republican critics in the Senate.

Romney's swearing in Thursday will follow the departure of the Senate's most vocal Trump critics, such as Sens. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

This son of a bitch. I'll be contacting his office.

This doesn't surprise me at all, but it still pisses me off to have my Senator trash my President.

That pussy had his chance and couldn't close the fucking deal. And we got 4 more years of Barry as a result.

Not a fan of Mitt. Don't care what he says at this point.
Especially if he's taking shots at Trump.

His election soured me on the idea of democratically elected representatives. I just don't believe in our electoral process like I used to.

The deep state establishment on both sides of the aisle is getting spun up for the next election. It really pisses me off when people talk about the government shutdown as Trumps fault.

It was the lead story on our local Fox13 last night. Nothing like getting really pissed off before you go to bed. Romney is disgusting, still believes he's relevant, shut up and support our President!

The MSM needs a replacement for John "reach across the aisle" McCain, and Romney needs to feel he's important. I predict we'll see much more of Romney slamming Trump and then approaching sainthood.

John McCain II

Recall that Mitt's dad, George Romney was also part of the Bush, Bill Scranton, Nelson Rockefeller wing of the FDR-New Deal-big government Republicans who helped sink Barry Goldwater in '64, Reagan in '76, then with the late Bush '41 abandoned the Reagan miracle of '81-'89 and is now attempting to thwart Trump. Unfortunately for America, we're stuck with Mitt Romney for 6 years where no doubt he will do everything to consort and parlay with the Democrats to sabotage the President's agenda. And I will go a step further and state for the record that...

This op-ed is essentially Mitt Romney's announcement that he intends to primary President Trump in 2020.
