The family and I are going to Gatlinburg to rent a cabin we stayed in over the summer of 1995. Plan to do a little hiking, visit the artist trail near Pitman center, and stop into Smokey Mountain Knife Works near Sevierville. The big fun is that my wife bought me a helicopter tour for me to take my camera and get some neat pictures.

What do you and your family have lined up for the summer?

My family went to Biltmore 3 weeks ago, right before my furlough ended and we had a great time. We may try to go to the beach once all the crazies die down.

We're taking the whole family (4 kids, 2 sons-in-law) to a beach house in Oregon. Looking forward to a little peace and solitude.

I was thinking about doing the Tetons or some other NPs out west; however we'll likely stick closer to home and maybe go to the Cape for a rocket launch / long beach weekend. We did a ski trip this spring right before the 'Rona shutdown (lucky timing).

My family. who were going to visit in August from the UK, just had their flights (which I paid for last November) cancelled.

Fortunately, after some hanging on the phone, I got a full refund issued back to my Amex today.

I hope International flights open up soon. I have grandkid withdrawal symptoms.

Like you, we're heading to the smokies in late July with my wife side of the family. I'm looking forward to a vacation!

Also going to hit Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Bud's is right there too, so I'll stop in. One of my sister in laws in planing some hikes, that should be pretty cool.

Probably just a couple of 3-4 day weekends at the lake. I think any real travel (plane) would be wasted due to some bullshit regulations.

Other than our place on the lower Potomac or on the unforeseen trip when/if son in law gets his hip replacement, nothing on the horizon.

I have paid for and am anticipating a 3rd tour of Alaska in August. To comply with their current rules about outsider's entry into the state, I have had to move my arrival time forward 2 days (to give time for an entry COVID test to finish). So far, at least, it appears that the tour will still go.

Yup. Just got back from Cozumel. We had a great time. Maybe going out on the boat for a week, but that’s up in the air, still.

I usually go to a three-day prone rifle match over Labor Day weekend, but I'm expecting it will be cancelled this year. Otherwise, no.

Well once our plans to head out to Burning Man were derailed by it being cancelled (Burners since 2012)we decided to spend a week exploring our Upper Peninsula. Even have a SF meet up planned. Not going until after Labor Day.

This is one of the few topics that fires off my anger/frustration button. I typically like to take a week or 10 days to go somewhere, but this COVID-19 stuff has not only put the kibosh on random travel, but it's also causing my work calendar to fill up abnormally. At the present rate, I won't have seven to ten days I can take off consecutively, much less any place to go. And stay home? God, no! I've been doing that because of the coronavirus!

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

I was in OBX last week. Took advantage of some deals a friend found. We always go south where it's not as crowded. Avon, Buxton area.

I was down there two years ago. Fun little area. Hiked all over the Smokey's and had some good meals in downtown Gatlinburg.
