Would like to hear some thoughts about it especially if you have some experience with it.
I do know what it is.

Thanks.

I now wake up about 5:20 AM every day due to my circadian rhythm. Texas is far enough south that it's not a big deal to go from summer to winter.

Anchorage, AK, used to play hell with my circadian rhythm. Dec 201st we'd be 5.5 hours between sunrise and sunset and it was also when I left the state to visit family in Upper Midwest then go spend a week in Hawaii. I'd come back from paradise and my body didn't want to function until the 10:15 AM sunrise, but I had to leave for work at 7 AM. 2nd year and onward I wised up and the first week back to work I'd force myself to get up 30 minutes early, and either exercise or read while I had a blue light shining in my face at a 45 degree angle. It'd reset my circadian rhythm in 5 days, and I'd be right as rain for another year.

Thanks TT, Is the "blue light" something that is used for that specific purpose?

My experience is working a rotating day/night shift for 12 years and how to best cope with disruptions to the natural rhythm and how to minimize them thru schedules.

If this is relevant to your situation, I will try to answer questions.

My elderly mother has a severe case of her's being opposite of normal. We have worked with her to little success. She is nearing the end of her life, so it is what it is.
Mine is some out of whack, but far from severe. Some of the reasons are spelled out in the link downtown posted. It is not currently shift oriented although I did experience that at one point in my work career for about six months.

Yes, it was a LED panel specifically for the purpose of resetting my CR every new year when I lived in Alaska. I haven't lived there in 12 years though and the light itself is long gone.

I don't remember the brand, but it had an associated website with CR info on it as well as the plan that I actually used to reset mine. It was before Bezos let Amazon get loaded with Chinese junk.

Sorry to hear about your Mother. Stress can be introduced by the care process. I will pray for your family as you go thru this.

Blackout curtains helped in neighborhoods with streetlights. Eliminate light sources during sleep time as much as possible, even charging LED's.

I am beginning to think there is something to the no phone by bedside idea. Not sure yet, jury still out. Wife is convinced.

Retired 9 years, and once and a great while my body flips and I stay awake most of the night. I stay up with a short nap and reset that night. Long naps seem to hurt the recovery.

wife had a similar light she tried for a year or so, but then stopped, for whatever reason

I have been waking up with the sun now for about a year,
used to be able to sleep late if I could, and used an alarm to wake up (when I had to be at work at 6am or 7am etc,

now my hours are a bit flexible (self employed, so it varies) however is seems that when the sun gets in the window, I am up,

lately that means 615-630 am,

I have learned to accept it, and rely on it, which means I may oversleep one day,

as a correlation, I seem to be tired at 930-10 pm
vs the 11pm or later bed time I used to keep

Right now doesn't seem to be a big issue as sunrise is around 5:30. I've heard that facing the sun in the morning (not looking directly obviously) getting light to the retina, helps to reset/regulate CR.

Thanks Sig operator. I appreciate that very much.

The screen time can be an issue. As can diet, as can exercise. All plays into it for me. I don't have trouble going to sleep. But don't get into a deep sleep and dream a lot. Sometimes wake up after about 3 hours and am wide awake. Read or get up for 20 or 30 minutes then go back to sleep.
Have been sleeping with the phone under the bed vs on the night stand?

Quote from the Cleveland Clinic link - “Delayed sleep phase syndrome: This type of disorder affects people known as “night owls.” It means you go to bed and wake up two or more hours later than most people.”

Confirmed night owl since basically…forever. (Thus post is at 0144)
When has this been a problem, ESPECIALLY since retiring? I go to bed at 0130, 0200 or 0300. Sleep until I wake up. If that’s 0900, 1000 or noon, well it is what it is and I’m good with it.

If I’m on a hunting trip, I reset the schedule since I’m going to be up at 0dark30 and be on alert all day.
Then after the hunt, it’s back to Night Owl status.

It’s a thing. I go outside first thing and get sunlight. Check out Andrew Huberman podcasts on YouTube. He talks a lot about it. I also take magnesium glycinate at night. It seems to help.

Circadian rhythm?
What is this fairytale you speak of?
I’ve heard of this in strange places and far off lands.

I rotate shifts every 28 days.
Days- 9:30am - 6:30pm
Nights- 6:00pm - 3:00am
Just about as your body is getting used to the hours, you get to change!
Then we’ll switch times is there’s a detail. Late arrest, a little overtime. Day off canceled.

Slather on top of that the fact that I just sleep like shit. Wake up out of a dead sleep and my mind is going at 100mph. Even better, I get home exhausted, take a shower, lay down and then my mind goes into overdrive.

I would kick a baby in the throat to get just a few days of 6+ hours of uninterrupted sleep.

CPD, not trying to be an ass. But you know what would happen if you left and someone else took over for you, nothing.

But if you left, your life could change.

I know I am just stating the obvious.

I wish you well.

My bedroom is dark, blackout shades, solid covers over the bathroom frosted glass door. Since I was a child, I cannot sleep with even a small amount of light. Light tells me it is time to get up. Maybe make your cave as dark as possible.

I've reached a point where I believe that some of us were not put here to enjoy peace and happiness but to serve a purpose.
