I am 180 out. I have always been a night person. I used to drive my parents nuts. Go to sleep around 6PM and be up at 4AM. Go to school and repeat. Of the 20+ years I spent in a Crown Vic, 18 of them was on midnights. Loved it! Often stay awake until 4 or 5 AM reading or watching movies. Get up around 10 AM and catch a nap during the day.

I am a morning person by necessity only.
I need to roll into work by 0600 to get a parking spot. 0545 to get a good one.
To make that happen I have to get up by 0430. These days 0400 works better. I am SLOW in the mornings. And I need to be in bed before 2000 to make that happen. Swing shift is my jam. I naturally sleep best from around midnight to 0700-0800. It is a struggle on a long weekend to not fall into that schedule.
My Dad, however, never seemed to need much sleep. And he worked shift work for a couple decades of his life. He drove OTR flatbed freight for a bigger part of his life. He would sleep in 30 minute to 4 hour increments. We also buried him at 68.

I can tell you that my Aura ring did pretty well at telling me what mine was. I already knew and it was right on the money. I think it took 90 days of wearing it while sleeping to figure it out. I cannot say that the ring helps me to sleep but it does provide some pretty good information and it even knew when I was getting sick.

Born second shifter. Finally, in my 68th orbit of the Sun, I can pretty much live that lifestyle.

We get up between 09:00 and 09:30 and go to bed around 01:00.

Had to get up at 03:30 today to work EMS. i hate it.

As I have pretty much zero interest in conformity, I'm gonna keep doing what I do.

Rugged, you’re not being an ass at all. No truer words have been spoken. I’m on vacation right now, and I know that the machine is chugging away without me just fine.
I’ve got 3ish years left. Kids in College and High School, and the Overtime Im making is just too good to pass up.

I’ve had a messed up schedule my entire life, why change now?

That is great. Enjoy your vacation. I knew you had a plan and sounds like it is on schedule. Just be careful. You and guys and gals like you keeping others safe is a tough and dangerous job. We all want you guys to finish and be able to enjoy the benefits of a job well done!

CPD SIG:
Marquette Co. S.O. is looking for lateral transfers right now. Less money probably but way less stress. NMU right here for the kids. Or MTU in Houghton. Grand Valley in the Soo.
Oh... Bring your parka!

My oldest is at WMU.
Well, home for the summer, but he’s back in Aug for Rugby.

I have a few irons in the fire that can hold me over until the youngest gets out of High School.

The bad thing is, the Overtime is almost always there. Im on vacation now, the other 3 Sgts and my Lt all split up my shifts between them. When I get back, another Sgt is going on vacation, so I get to get in in the $, then another Sgt shortly after that… again, the Lt, other Sgts and I work those shifts.
Lather, rinse, repeat in the fall.
Yeah, it’s “blood money”, but college ain’t cheap.
A few things recently happened at work that is putting a bad taste in my mouth, and I might just go back to straight shifts.

I have a funny feeling that when I do retire, the LAST thing I’m going to do is anything related to Law Enforcement/Security. But whatever it’s going to be, it AINT gonna be anywhere near Chicago or Illinois! I might just do something really dumb like “go broke working in a gun store” for a while. “Go broke selling watches” is on the list as well.

I looked into geriatric porn, not a real big market for that. Frown
