No Compromise |
Just like the title says. What really bad decisions have you made? Now, I’m not talking about eating three day old pizza, bad, or wearing your polo shirt with the collar up, bad. I mean straight up, marrying your cousin, bad, or going to the office in a Speedo, bad, or sleeping with your mother in law, bad. I mean really, really bad decisions. My worst decision ever was joining SIGforum. It’s cost me more than sending a kid to college. I could be driving around in a Ferrari with all I’ve spent because of this place. But then I wouldn’t have it any other way. H&K-Guy

I agree - joining this forum was a really bad idea - but I am driving around in a Ferrari however I think my absolute worst decision was not asking my girlfriend at the time if she wanted to get married

Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
Trusting people close to me to do the right thing at the right time, and trusting that they would consider other's needs before their own. As a result, I have no faith that I can make any situation work when other people are involved or have a responsible, logical decision to make. I can only control my own outlook and reaction to situations. I'm tired of trying to talk sense into people, only to be ignored. Tony. I don't keep a running list of bad decisions ... is that a bad decision?

Long list but worst one is easy: buying my in laws house almost 20 years ago to keep them out of bankruptcy. I knew it was a bad idea even in my latter 20’s and even told my wife (who was having cardio issues at the time) that it would probably cost us 20 years that it was a bad idea but after several talk, I agreed. Stupidest decision ever and my MiL just loves telling people about how we go a great deal yet doesn’t mention that while we paid about 20k less for the house than market value the damn place needed at least 30k worth of work. Wife finally sees it, leaves the major financial decisions up to me. And she also no longer speaks to her mother. ___________________________ Not giving a damn since...whenever...

Easy, my first marriage. Thank the good lord we didn't have kids. 40 years into my second marriage which turns out to be my best decision. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do. |
My first marriage also, there was 4 children born to that union. I have come to question which ones are actually mine. I know for sure one wasn't. Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

Marrying my ex-wife, despite the warning signs. Should have trusted my gut, not my heart and her words. I just recently rectified that situation. I've also always regretted not joining the military. I considered it, but jumped straight into college, and then directly into law enforcement. Now, older and wiser, I know I would have enjoyed it and gotten a lot out of it.

Not joining the military. I scored 98 percent on the ASVAB and had recruiters knocking my door down. I was more interested in other things, and have regretted it my whole life. I don't even regret my first marriage, without her I wouldn't have my kids. Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

Buying my house in this city in NH. NH is great, My city is terrible. Purchased in 2002 for $89.5k. After $70k in improvements I’m at 101.3 k. School budget is giant and the students receive a poor education. (Zillow rating of 2). Just very disappointing. I’ll never get my money out of my cute little Cape. Anyways, how ‘bout them Red Sox !?!? -------------------------------------------------------2/28/2015 ~ Rest in peace Dad. Lt Commander E.G.E. USN Love you.

I got three: Marrying first wife. Trusting women who have proven they can't be trusted i.e. helping someone who didn't deserve it. $10k lost on one. Not being motivated enough in my youth and taking the easy way out of things. I sometimes still make this bad decision today. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I had an opportunity that I passed up over 50 years ago because I thought I wasn't good enough and it would never work out. I still regret it after all these years. Took some work, but I did grow more confident and I think I did OK for myself.
