I built 2 LongEZ'and a Glasair III in my two car garage, rented a paint booth from Friday night to Monday morning when the body shop was closed. Most homebuilts are indeed built at home. I lived on a cul-de-sac in Orange County CA, and taxi'd each of them up and down the street before taking them to the airport. The neighbors were amused, but a straight pipe Lycoming is bit noisier than a Toro mower so it wasn't well tolerated My ex-wife was pissed her car was parked outside in the driveway for 30 months on each build. | |||

3 car garage solved this problem with my current project. Just had to put my car outside. The Enemy's gate is down. | |||

Update.... After about 60 hours of instruction, I did my first solo flight - 3 takeoffs and landings at my home airport in a C172. I probably could have done it sooner, but I wanted to be more comfortable in the plane before I tried it. I actually thought my solo landings were some of my best yet. It was maybe a little easier without the pressure of the instructor. I now have to do the additional solo hours required, the cross country work and the night flights and then I'll be ready to take my check ride for the certificate. Probably another 15-20 hours based on my previous pace. | |||

Congratulations on the solo. 60 hours before the instructor signed you off on the solo in a 172? You may want to consider a different instructor. This one may have more than your interests as his priority. | |||

Congrats. Don't quit or give up. You have a lot of time, energy, and money invested. Once you have your PPL, enjoy flying. Please consider getting your instrument rating not to far down the road. It will make you a much more proficient and safer aviator. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." FBLM LGB! | |||

Congrats on the Solo. I'm a student pilot also and you're getting some great advice. Contact Sling and they can give you the name of a few builders. Check out some of the early MoJo videos, he had his built by a Pro. NeedaBiggerSafe Life Member NRA | |||
