With all the deals available right now, it's a bit tempting.

Wife's Flex is >110k & has a couple intermittent issues. Somewhat tempting to get another, with them being discontinued a near-loaded new Limited can be had for some great deals.
She really wants a Telluride, but they're few & far-between on dealer lots & not much discounted at the moment.

If I could get out of my Mercedes (depreciation ) I'd consider it for myself as well.

The Telluride is a hot commodity, and a lot of value for the money. If she wants one you'd need to spread your shopping zone via the interwebs to see if you can find one.

I agree the deals are tempting, I just drive so few miles anymore about 4-5K a year it's hard to justify a new truck much less a $50K+ truck...

I have had just one. An '82 280ZX, loaded. Extremely reliable. It wasn't the fastest but would do 130 mph any day of the week. Kept it for over 21 years and sold it for $2500 at almost 300k miles. Great not having a payment for so long.

There are 4 within 100 miles of us. 3 new, 1 used.
She hasn't driven one yet, so that could alter her desire if she doesn't like how it drives.

I've always bought new. Usually buy at the end of the model year run when next year's model is already on the lots. Take advantage of rebates and incentives offered then. Have typically bought on supplier/employer plans from GM and Ford. Lately it has been full sized 4 wheel drive pickups. Pricing usually works about to be about the same for new as a 2-3 year old used truck. Current 2019 F-150 snickered for $52K and I paid $39k for it. Put enough money down that I'm never upside down on it.

Lots or reasons for this. New and under warranty in case anything goes wrong. Trucks can be abused and there's always some question of history when buying used. Need reliability, especially here in Alaska. Take care of my vehicles and it minimizes depreciation. Current trade-in value of the truck is $33k with a retail value of $40k. Usually a bigger selection new and I can usually get close to the equipment that I want on it.

Plus it's nice getting a new truck. The current one though was kind of a big nothing burger. Went from a 2015 F-150 to a 2019 with the exact same trim and equipment only difference being the color. So even though I had a new truck, it didn't feel new.

A Corolla in 2004, because the price difference between new and a 3yo used was like $500 bucks.

Recently- I bought a 2019 Ford Ranger in mid 2019, they weren’t selling well so I got a reasonably good deal. Since the model hadn’t been made in the US since 2011 (and was a significantly different truck then) used wasn’t an option, and I liked the 2019 a lot more than anything else comparable.

Very recently, like last weekend- I picked up a 2019 Mustang Bullitt. The cash incentives were insane and my OTD price was 2k less than invoice.

So, given the circumstances new can be a good option. The majority of my care purchases have been used though, usually 3y old lease trade-ins.

Mine was a Silverado and with the customer cash, interest rates plus the employee discount we got through immediate family, it really did come out pretty close on the new one compared to used this time, but used prices have been dropping lately as well. The one perk though on used is we tended to be able to upgrade to higher trim levels for little additional. For new, that stuff definitely comes with large premiums in price that we just couldn't go for.

Three.

First one (a subaru outback) didn't make sense, but I was in a jam due to a PCS. To date it's been the most costly vehicle I've ever owned, and I hated it 3 days after it was delivered.

The last 2, we still have, and after extensive shopping for reliable, lightly used vehicles...we ended up just buying new, zero miles, with zero and 2% interest. No regrets. 5 years later, one is paid for, and the other is getting close (zero interest...no hurry). One has 32K miles and the other 46K miles. We'll likely drive them both for at least another 5-8 years. I used X-plan pricing for them, and put a sizeable chunk of cash down. Owning reliable vehicles with known maintenance history is important to me. I have to be able to get in and drive to where I need to go, at all times...or I can't make my living. Some of the places we travel to, in the weather and road conditions we endure, necessitate certain characteristics of a vehicle. Alaskans are not known for maintaining their vehicles, I'd be pretty hard pressed to find a reliable used vehicle here. Most are junk.

I bought a new car in 1968, 1973 and 1987. Never again, only (newish) used ones since 1995. I am old enough and keep them until they are no longer reliable; I may only have one car left to buy in my life.

We did that twice. The worst loss was financing them. Now we buy within two years and pay cash. We just bought a 2019 Subaru.

You pay a premium for that new car smell.

Drive it off the lot and lose 20% value.

Earlier in this thread, I said I had 10 new vehicles for myself and that I would only purchase used ones from then on. I’m at eleven now. I’m hoping my wife will trade her RAV-4 in in a year or two so she can take my ‘20 Crosstrek so I can get a newer Tacoma.

I bought my first car when I was 18 years old, it was a three year old 1969 Ford Thunderbird. It was a POS that killed me with repair bills. At 20 I traded it in on a brand new Ford Pinto, been buying brand new vehicles ever since. I am not a mechanic, and don't even play one on the internet.
A warranty for the first three years or longer gets me through any possible lemon, if it is not reliable by the end of that warranty, it gets traded in on a new one.
I haven't had a "lemon" in thirty years or so, cars are made so much better today, I usually keep a car for seven to ten years.

Yes, I have had 3. But I pay cash and keep them 6-7 years and pay cash again for new ones. I know it is not the most economical, but i work hard and can afford the luxury.

after my mom died I splurged and used part of my inheritance on a new truck, a Honda Ridgeline. That was the first, and probably last. I was in my late 40's and am still driving it 12 years later.

I have owned a lot of cars over the years, but have never had a new car. I might purchase one before I die......but then again, maybe not!!

Haven't had a used car since 1973. Always bought a new one.

Even worse was the days when I was doing so much moonlighting that I just cashed the checks and threw the cash in a drawer. When the urge struck I'd trade in the car and get a new one. At one point it was ever 18 months. Finally wised up and kept them for a lot longer.

Noiw ever three years I turn over the lease and get a new one. Really one of the few expenses I have left.

My first brand new car was a pale primrose (yellow) 1969 Austin Healey Sprite Mark IV with radial tires and a 1275 cc 4 cylindar engine, two SU side draft carburetors and four speed manual (no synchro in 1st) w/black interior. It generated 65 horsepower and had a seven gallon fuel tank. I'd love to have it again....but at this age and size - I doubt I could get in. And most definitely could not get out!!!

Only twice. In 2005 I bought a brand new Mustang GT. Just last week I bought a new 2019 Camaro that the dealership REALLY wanted off their lot.

I'm blessed that both my wife and I have job security in these times. With the deals being offered it was the perfect time to buy. The heavy rebates on remaining 2019 inventory made it a no brainer.

As an aside, the new Camaros are a lot of fun to drive. Rear visibility is terrible, but otherwise I prefer it to the last few generations of Mustang.
