I'm starting to think that ALL of the newly hired "Engineers" are stoned to the gills. Most are now working from home and there is no supervision at all. Had a "team" of "engineers" at a large US automaker state they was a fabricated tube held to a tolerance of 0.05mm, a 1.5mm profile was too excessive. Hey Asshole, it's a bent tube and properties with in a strip of steel formed into a tube do vary. If you want to hold 0.05mm take your part and go fishing because that is NOT going to happen. I've stopped counting.

College kids smoke weed a lot. A friend that does Uber at a nearby state university says you can smell it everywhere. I would guess they don't stop once they get jobs.

I hate it when you guys say stupid shit like as long as they can do the job I don’t care if they are on weed. Stupidest thing ever. It’s a stupid thing to say on many levels but I will keep it simple. The first thing drug and alcohol use takes from you is judgement. It literally turns the user into the worst judge of just how fucked up they are. Once you are under the influence maybe you might be fine and maybe you won’t be. If your dumbass is making my coffee there probably is no real potential for harm. In many jobs though there is huge potential for harm. This completely ignores that this person under this influence but convinced they are fine is driving to work. This puts my wife, my kids, my grandkids and yours at risk. Nobody drives better under the influence. And yes, distracted driving is just as bad and also needs to be effectively curtailed. How’s this? Do all the drugs you want. On your time at your house. Keep your shit and your problems to yourself?

Nope, you won't be fine, in terms of performing a task that requires dealing with a "situation." In the late 1960s I was an instructor at a large Part 141 school based at Chicago's Midway airport. Our monthly staff meetings were frequently held at a beer and pizza joint near the airport. One month, we had been discussing alcohol's effects on pilots, and we decided to do an experiment. Some of the instructors drank beer (on the company's nickel) with their pizza; the control group stuck to Coke. After the meeting at the pizza place, we returned to the school and set up some scenarios in the simulators. The Coke drinkers handled all problems and system failures. Most of the beer drinkers went into mental overload and crashed. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

I'm a regular beer drinker and sometime Scotch drinker and I did an experiment using alcohol years ago. I drank one beer which doesn't even start to give me a buzz, then wrote code for an hour. Waited until the next day to check it, and it was garbage, so even a slight amount of alcohol can screw up my judgement.

If weed is legal, and so is alcohol, if an employer tests for THC (noting that it could be use in or out of the place of employment), should they also be testing for alcohol usage also? There's a push at the federal level to legalize weed. So soon, in states that legalized it at the state level, there won't even be the excuse that it's against federal law to justify workplace testing.

Well I don’t know but I can say in my admittedly few places of employment they tested regularly and randomly for drugs AND alcohol. Alcoholics aren’t getting a free pass.

There is a big difference between using alcohol or weed in your spare time and being under the influence at work. Companies don't test for alcohol during pre-employment testing. But if you show signs of intoxication at work you might get tested. Our plant in Mexico tests people randomly as they enter the plant. Guess they have a problem with "still drunk from last night" coming into work in the morning. Blanket testing for illegal drugs is just for that - illegal substances. It is acceptable to refuse employment to those that break that law habitually. Now, the question is how long does a high from weed last, and when do you have to stop to sober up enough to be normal. For states where weed is legal, I have not heard if there is a limit of THC in the bloodstream for defining legal intoxication, or how it can be tested other than a blood test. This the issue as we legalize things, what are the limits and how long do the intoxicating effects last. My observations about weed smokers is that it affects them a lot of the time - short term memory, general laziness, etc. But that could be because they are high all the time.

I've worked for the same company for 44 years. Here's a little snippet of what it was like in the late 70's. Keep in mind this is a high production stamping plant. The old gruff Korean war vet comes up to me and says..."Ok kid, you're working with me Saturday. We're drinking Jack Daniels. You're paying for half of it whether you drink it or not. We're listening to the Notre Dame game on the radio and running bonus. No fucking around talking to the girls all day". I complied. The second break on 2nd shift (9:30 pm) would see 20 to 30 people standing in a circle with beers and joints. A middle class pot head will work extra hard to get more money to afford better pot. It's always been the drunks that were the most trouble. The place made mad money and is still making mad money Wherever there are people making money, whether on a shop floor or a board room, there will be drugs of some kind or another. I would propose to legalize weed and double down on hard drugs. With Cartels getting involved in illegal growing in the US, we could head them off a little bit, free up resources to go after low life that sell things that steal souls. We really need to stop cartels getting foot holds on US soil, it may be too late. It's not just Americans that are totally fascinated with everything illegal, immoral or fattening. It's every wealthy society. And every poor man wants a little comfort too. Those with stolen souls will live in a box to get it. I have NO respect for the lives of those selling meth, heroin or fentanyl. Our resources should be concentrated there. We should do them like Gulf war 1. They rate no humanity from me.

Spiritually Imperfect |
This is the difference, nowadays, in my case. In the recovery program I graduated from (and worked four years in their admin offices), the many screens I had to do were always observed. You got comfortable real quick with another person being in the room with you. The screens I have had since then (employment, various medical exams, etc) have all been done in private, unobserved.

I don't get it... I actually have no problem with most recreational drug use... which includes Alcohol, tobacco and marijuna .... plus even some other items... but with that said... I would never ever consider going to work under the influence of any of them. Now that I think about it I do go to work having done one of the most popular drugs in our fine country... caffeine from coffee.. I've always had a problem with these random drug test at work... seems to me like if a person is doing their job... I think any employee should be subject to a Radom surprise test but not for drugs but to see if they are actually capable of preforming their work... then if they fail that test do more test to see why. I think there is something a lot of people are overlooking in this study. CBD was legalized in 2018(ish). The real deal CBD (not the knock off eBay and amazon stuff) will make you piss dirty. I'm not saying this is the root cause. But its not helping matters.

Don’t think so. We have an expert on the forum so he can explain it better than me if he sees this.

Must have been the CBD, I dont smoke weed. That is a familiar refrain of those with a positive THC test. It does not matter you are dirty. Same thing if the urine is diluted by drinking massive amounts of water. The assumption is you were using. No excuses.

My employer has the right to randomly test us for drugs and alcohol. Alcohol dissipates quickly over time, but drugs don't. It results in immediate suspension and/or firing, depending on what's found. Guess they don't like loaded guns in the hands of an impaired person.

Shit don't mean shit |
I have a friend who has passed multiple drug tests after smoking pot. It doesn't involve fake, or someone else's piss. Apparently the strategy involves drinking a large amount of water, like a gallon, in a span of 30 minutes. You then take supplements (vitamins). One of the things they test for is diluted piss. If you take the vitamins it makes your diluted piss appear normal. Just google, how to pass a drug test and you'll find many products that will help you pass. The people who fail the drug tests must be the dumb ones.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Your friend is full of it. Google says all kinds of things. Cheating drug tests is big business, therefore lot of hits on the net. Taking vitamins does not make up for undiluted urine. The dumb ones are those that spend money trying to beat the tests. It is indeed possible that your friend's company uses a fly by night company for drug testing. Spectrograph testing is accurate.

Man Once Child Twice |
Walker77 was correct about some CBDs. There is CBD that is sold in dispensaries. This uses real MJ. There is CBD from hemp also. It has to be below 0.003% by weight. However, If the whole hemp plant is used they call it full spectrum. It has all the components that are in a hemp plant. The terpenes, cannabinol, THC, the whole plant. It has an entourage effect. It still has to be legal by weight, but this kind works. It can be tincture, gummies, chocolates. You will fail a drug test tho.

You are responsible for what you put in your body. Poppy seeds may cause you to test positive for opiates. If you test positive for THC by using some unregulated CBD product too bad.
