As a kid I loved cheese and pickle sandwiches. White bread, mayonnaise, American cheese and dill pickles. Still have one from time to time. ARman

PB and pickle. Still love them and wife hates the idea of them. Laura Scudder PB and pickles you buy in the cold section of the grocery store. None of those on the store shelf that but rather ones with bite and snap. I love those things and honestly, I think I felt a little something in the swimsuit zone just talking about it.

whatever the lunch entree was, most often of some similar sandwich like fixings listed above, just what did you wash it down with? The shop was right across the alley from a potato chip maker, so there was ample opportunity to experiment with still-warm fresh rejects on a regular basis. In my old tire~biter days in the retread shop in early 60s, the standard break/lunch guzzle for the younger crew was an obligatory cold Royal Crown Cola with a bag full of salty Mr. Peanuts poured down the neck. Sugar, salt, cold fluid....just what the Poetry in Motion crew needed to revive between steam heated rubber curing and truck tire rasslin' in a hot sweaty dirty environment.

A favorite from slumber parties when I was a kid: Saucy Sandwich Rolls from the old Betty Crocker cookbook. A pound of hot dogs sliced thin and browned in 3 tbsp of bacon far with a finely chopped onion. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup flour, 3/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp each of dry mustard and Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup water, 1 cup finely chopped celery. return to heat about five minutes until celery is tender. Stir in a 1/2 cup grated cheese and heat until it melts. Fill hotdog buns with mixture, wrap each individually in foil, bake in shallow pan 10-15 minutes until hot.

Grew up eating grilled cheese with bread and butter pickles. I still eat them that way. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Lose the ketchup and that actually sounds like a really tasty treat.
Hey, I'm a big fan of both grilled cheese and dill pickles, so that actually sounds pretty good. Maybe even add on a couple beef hot dogs or even some Spam, and that could be a fast, simple, cheap tasty snack or meal.

Ok, I started off simple tonight trying things mentioned. I got hungry after dinner and made a sandwich with peanut butter topped with crunched up kettle cooked salt and vinegar potato chips. I LOVED IT!!!!!!! Yum! On the last bite I thought of adding Dukes Mayo but couldn’t do it. NRA Benefactor Life Member
