I just bought a 1924 Winchester Model 12. It needs a recoil pad, but the furniture has been replaced.

I don't know if the replacement is the old style stock or updated stock.

Who here has dimensions of a Model 12 recoil pad?

Your best bet is to have a gunsmith install a cut to fit pad.

I have an circa-early-50's mod. 12, I don't know if this is new style or old, but the butt plate is 5 1/8" x 1 9/16"

If you do not care about having an original pad. Measure the stock butt & go to Brownells or Midway & find a rubber pad. The pads available will have dimensions. If you have a bench grinder, attached the pad which should be slightly oversized. Mask the stock with regular masking tape. When you hit the tape with the wheel it will just leave a mark on the tape, not the stock. Of course replace the tape & continue.

Order one for each of the different stock sizes, install the right one and return the other.

I have, and shoot my Grandfathers old Mdl.12. Made about the same year as yours.
Whenever I need service on the gun I send it off to Simmons, they really know the Mdl. 12.
Just remove the butt stock and send it in.

I have an original Bakelite Winchester but plate taken from a gun about the time frame that you mention. If I could help, let me know.

Everyone, thank you for the information.

The stock measures 4.8" X 1.8". A thin recoil pad would be perfect. I may fit a universal recoil pad and sand it down.

I still don't know if the stock is the original pattern, but it won't matter for the DIY style recoil pad.

Sir, do you mind making a pencil trace on paper and uploading it? If it's not to much to ask, please include the basic dimensions.

Thank you!

Will do that tomorrow 11/30. Is your e-mail address on your profile?

If I recall correctly, Limbsaver has a template you can download from their FAQ section. Print that out and compare which size is closest to your shotgun butt. Even if you don't want their pad, it may state that this size pad fits XYZ brand butts as well, which lets you know what currently manufactured brands have the same size (for shopping and comparison purposes). Hope that makes sense, no coffee yet this am...

Sir, the image didn't work. ImageBam has free image hosting. After uploading to that site, a link will be shown. Please post that link.

Thank you Kept Bum and Parabellum.

My stock measures 1.8" X 4.8". It is definitely an aftermarket / custom stock. Unfortunately, that causes problems due to the unusual recoil pad size and shape.

Brownells sells W logo pads kinda red orange rubber.

I recently picked up a 1953 model with a decayed pad on it. Also replacement wood as well a base model dressed up as a skeet model.

I just sent them an email and this image. I don't have a bench grinder or the fixture to hold the recoil pad.

This is the closest LimbSaver template that I could find from the PDF.
