If it doesn't have a handicapped sign in front, I'm parking there. I'm getting pretty tired of having to read signs to see if I, as a paying customer, qualify to park there.

Where should a disabled veteran park? Too many options.

Lowe's has reserved spaces for knocked up chicks too. And you know, some might get knocked up right there in the car to get that spot. So there's that option if you prefer it to the veteran's spaces.

I never served but my father and grandfather did. Grandfather saw combat in WWII, father did not see combat in Vietnam.

They key for me is the service. They gave up 'X' years of their lives, time away from family and friends, to serve in the military whether they saw combat or not. If not they were ready to if deployed. It is the sacrifice made to serve that I honor. Granted those who saw combat rate a higher level of respect, as do those wounded in combat.

Why is it feeble to you?

Because it is obvious that they are pandering. Like so many others who are trying to make money off of veterans and veteran causes. While their stated goal might be something that is admirable, you have to know that the only reason they are doing it is the dollar. This has little if anything to do with honoring veterans. It's all about one-upping Home Depot.

I can't believe that 20+ years of all veterans all the time hasn't worn thin on more of you. The vast majority of businesses spouting off about veterans don't give two shits about veterans.

If Lowes wants to do something for veterans, how's about they donate to mental health services for combat veterans to stop suicides related to PTSD or help homeless veterans find a warm place to live? That would mean a whole lot more than a few parking spots in front of their store in Kalispell, MT.

You almost seem jealous or bitter that this is being done.

Not jealous or bitter as I could take advantage of it if I wanted to. I don't.

I'm just tired of the pandering and the using of veterans for the dollar. If they were honest, they'd put their money where their mouth is.

ETA: And my apologies...I didn't mean to shit on your thread. It just struck a nerve that has been irritated for awhile.

Recently the local Bass Pro store marked the veterans parking spots with large signs and painted the stall dividers with red/white/bluep paint in front parking area ( 6 each) near store entrance. Mixed feelings about using these as well as the handicap placard parking as to being a green flag for those less than honest/honorable persons up to no good and preying on their fellow man. ...... drill sgt.

What you want em to do, cup your balls and give ya a handy? FFS, I'd make crotchety ass customers who can't appreciate shit Park across the street.

I guarantee if accompany came out saying they won't cater to veterans you'd be in an uproar. Now a company tries and you bitch. No wonder we're losing the battle.

I don't want them to do a damn thing...other than selling hardware to customers wanting to buy hardware.

What do you want them to do? Give you a hand job for "serving your country"?

Have you been shot at? Have you fired your weapon at an enemy? Have you been "down range"?. If not, then you are no different than I, who served 30 years ago.

Six unanswered questions.

I'm happy to talk about it and defend my opinions. If I'm wrong I'll own it.

You?

1. I don't want them to do anything. But I appreciate their gesture.
2. You simply repeated my rhetorical question here.
3. No
4. No
5. Yes
6. The battle of convincing anyone of anything, which is all we got.

I would likely never use the specified parking spots, same as I don't take overly look for military discounts at non military stores. But that doesn't mean these places did anything wrong with the gesture.

Whether you consider it pandering or not makes no difference. It's simply a nice gesture. Use it or don't, fuck, dont shop there if you're so offended. But the store did nothing wrong.

And at the end of the day your stance on it and your justification I can understand, but it doesn't make it any less ignorant.

I didn't say that they did anything wrong, just to be clear. But, their motives are what is under suspicion. If they truly believe in this cause, then God bless them. I have my doubts...as should you.

Major worldwide corporations don't make "nice gestures". They do things that benefit the bank account. It really is that simple. It's about the buck and nothing else.

Oh, I'm not offended...at all. I just see it for what it is. And, as I said, I'll shop there when I need to.

I find it silly that you're telling us this as though we didn't learn years ago thats what a business is about. Every decision a business makes should be about the money with few exceptions.

And it can still be a nice gesture regardless, cause at the end of the day, they dont HAVE to do it.

What if they openly said as a company they support the second amendment? Would you call that BS as well? What is it that says a company cannot support something? The fact that you find it a money grab?

You make a good point. We've had the spots for over two years now, but they are usually half full weekdays and if you are getting lumber too far from that end. I don't always use them.

On the other hand I've seen a county deputy park his personal car in a handicap spot and the whole family get out to go shop. I couldn't tell who might have been disabled or not. No plate or placard.

I remember when I was recovering from a compound fracture and still on a walker - we went to a large discount store and all the electric carts were in use. I sat with another guy for 25 minutes as large obese women wheeled up and down the aisle to get more chips and beer. I've listened to conversations at other times and "bad knees" were common. Ya think?

Of course not all vets are 100% and it's a bit obtuse to think they are.

My local Lowe's went so far as to put wreaths on the vets signs this Christmas.

I can't recall where, but I've seen a parking sign that specified combat vet.

The bank I use has a "Hometown Hero" parking spot right by the handicapped spaces for first responders.

When do we discuss the guys, and it's invariably guys, who plaster their veteran status in 12 inch tall decals all over their trucks, and it's invariable trucks?

Pandering? Looks like they do some of the things you are bitching about.

https://corporate.lowes.com/ne...o-make-home-possible

They are a business and businesses need to make money. No shit Sherlock…

If a vet is going to spend money, there is no issue with Lowes offering some perks to get them to spend their money in their store.

You just want to be offended…and butthurt.
