Get my pies outta the oven! |
Last Papa John's we had around 6 months ago bordered on inedible that's how bad it was, the place has never been the same since they forced the owner out. They used to be pretty good but it's clear they are now cutting corners and skimping a whole lot. Fans are worried about Papa John's future after the latest earnings report showed a steep drop in sales I'm in SE Pennsylvania where fortunately we have a mom & pop pizza place on every other corner it seems so we really never have to eat chain pizza but the wife is very deal-conscious and when a local plain cheese pizza is now 18 bucks when it used to be $10-11 and Papa John's has a deal guess what we are getting. She found a Domino's deal recently and their pizza was surprisingly good for chain pizza, I think they really have done a lot to improve it compared to its rivals.

Fill your hands you son of a bitch |
Well I'm not surprised, I just bought a Shaq-aroni the other day, worst frickin pizza I've ate in years. I'm done with them

Is the crust still sweetened? I can't abide that. Why does everyone think everything is improved with the addition of sugar? "We're all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth 'til death. We travel between the eternities."

It was the last time I had any about 18 months ago... I think they add sugar to their sauce too - or HFCS - its way too sweet. They used to be very good back in like 2006 - steady decline since then. 'veritas non verba magistri'

I start w/ the house take-n-bake pizza from my local market. Need to add things like italian herbs, garlic powder, toppings (like extra cheese), some EVOO and then it comes out pretty good. $10 vs $22 from the local pizza places. I think there was a study done a while back that showed all these fast food places adding sugar/HFCS because it makes your body want to eat more and more of it.

We have pretty good local choices so I don't get chain pizzas. One of them has a Wed. special for $8 (single topping) and it's good pizza! "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I've heard this as well, but it doesn't make it better. "We're all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth 'til death. We travel between the eternities."

Little ray of sunshine |
We call Dominos for chain pizza. It isn't great, but it isn't bad. We don't order pizza out all that often. There is a smaller chain place that I can pick up from on the way home, and the pizza is better, too. I haven't had Papa John's in years. The fish is mute, expressionless. What is the soup du jour? |
I haven’t eaten at P.John’s since they ousted Papa. Until he comes back, that chain is dead to me. With a plethora of options, I only miss the garlic butter dipping sauce. If I never taste it again, I won’t fret over it.

I honestly don't think I've ever had Papa John's. I keep seeing their ads but haven't tried it. Sounds like I missed the best opportunity. Dominos is so-so, but they always over cook it. Little Ceasar's really can't even be called pizza. When I lived in Portland I alternated between Godfather's, Round Table and Papa Murphy, they were all pretty good. Here my only chain option is Papa Murphy. There's one mom & pop place in town but I haven't tried it yet. Guess I need to get off my ass and do that.

No, not like Bill Clinton |
They are excellent, we have one less than five minutes from us. I usually get the garden pizza with added sausage. Haven't had PJ's in years We also have plenty of mom & pop places around with great pizza

Marcos and Jets are both good pizza, but damn both have become so expensive. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

That's just pizza everywhere now What used to be a quick and cheap meal has become really expensive, around here the price of a pizza has easily doubled in the past 3 years or so.

It's better if you're trying to sell a shitload more pizza to people who don't know any better.

Costco or Sam's Club pizza is our go to for inexpensive but decent pizza if we need to feed a crowd. Godfathers is pretty good for a chain. _____________________________________________ I may be a bad person, but at least I use my turn signal.

We have plenty of good mom and pop here, but for chains, Marco's and NYPD are the best. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . .
