What conspiracy story about the guy that filled his fuel tank with water, dropped a couple of pills in it, and it turned to burnable fuel. That's what I want.

Or there is the one about the guy who bought an LTD or Town Car, starts getting 68 MPG, and brings it back because he wants to make sure there isn't something wrong with the motor. Dealer calls corporate, gets told to sieze the car and give the customer whatever he wants. It seems a research vehicle accidentally got into the retail supply chain. Yea, about that...... Case in point:

My 1972 BMW 2002 sedan weighed 2,000 pounds and had a 2.0L 95HP carb engine that got 20MPG.

I currently have a 2019 Ford Escape that weighs 3600 pounds with a 2.0L 285HP tuned Ecoboost engine that gets 23.5MPG around town.

That Escape weighs almost twice as much, has almost 3 times the HP and gets 3.5 miles per gallon more.

My 17 Forester gets near 35 on the highway. In town 30.

Highway is best in the 60s mph. Faster, it drops.

I would think there are a few medical advancements, drug treatments, or non-traditional treatments, substances, etc. that are either suppressed or not widely promoted by the establishment.

Most forms of auto racing. That and whatever pharmaceuticals that aren't approved by DuPont, Randolph Hearst, etc... but Porter and Jick said they were great!

As Jay Leno said the other night: in the 60's there was a racing driver dying every week. Whether literally true or not, today's auto racers drive at higher speeds with vastly greater safety.

Now for my gripe as per Black's OP:

Dishwashers. They are extremely quiet now, but they don't wash dishes as well as they did when we had high-phosphate detergents and could use more water.

But for the most part, I would say technology has advanced tremendously, while the wetware (our brains) have turned to mush.
In movies, TV, universities, the media: wonderful technology is being used primarily to produce worthless shit.

Oh yes, definitely this. Dishwashers nowadays take twice as long to do a load of dishes and do half as good a job.

Refrigerators don't last for shit anymore either. Same for microwaves. Sure, the technology may have advanced, but the quality certainly hasn't.
