They've been trying to play for quite a while. US pilots have been told to not fall for it, mainly due to the Russian pilots not having a good handle of their own aircraft as evidenced by the poor hot-dogging they've shown when intercepting our slower surveillance planes, bombers and drones.

Splash them all! If they aren't dissuaded from these actions, what incentive do they have to discontinue them? Has "kids, please play nice" ever worked in the history of mankind? Oh yeah, showing the bully that you're afraid to fight him is bound to lead to a desirable outcome.

The Russians have had a few close calls. I am really surprised this story hasn’t been discussed more. Russian fighter fired missile at UK surveillance plane From the article: “ A Russian fighter jet fired a missile at a manned British surveillance aircraft flying over the Black Sea in September but the munition malfunctioned, according to U.S. defense officials and a recently leaked classified U.S. intelligence report. The incident was far more serious than originally portrayed and could have amounted to an act of war. According to two U.S. defense officials, the Russian pilot had misinterpreted what a radar operator on the ground was saying to him and thought he had permission to fire. The pilot, who had locked on the British aircraft, fired, but the missile did not launch properly.” ![]() ![]() ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Ha ha ha. Talk about a paper tiger. Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed. Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists. Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Firing on the Brit plane WAS an 'act of war.' The only reason it didn't escalate is because of the malfunction. . . Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

That article and similar all came out 2+ weeks ago...regarding an incident that was known back in October of last year https://www.dailymail.co.uk/ne...plane-Black-Sea.html Shitty comms, shitty fire-control system and shitty weapon resulted in disaster being avoided and possible bigger war developing. How many other incidents have had similar outcomes and everyone not knowing how close things came....probably more than what we're comfortable knowing about.

I’d like to point out that reactions have been a part of normal activity between nations since forever, and none of this is exclusive to President Biden, Obama, or Trump. It’s simply how things go, if we reacted to every reaction or provocation we’d be at war 24/7. We do it, they do it, your friend does it, your mom does it. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

dogfight? I thought planes engage over the horizon now. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." This (Why are we above Syria) is the most intelligent response I have read on this thread. No doubt, this sort of malfeasance is precisely how World War lll will begin.

We’re still killing ISIS leadership in Syria using special ops to target and destroy them. It’s a labor intensive process, and requires fighter aircraft to dissuade Russian aircraft from fucking with the assets finding those IS targets. If you don’t want us to do it, call your congressman and tell them. Until then, we follow orders.
