1/2” of ice here. Lots of power outages. Trees uprooted due to the additional weight of the ice and the saturated ground. Predicting even more ice late Sunday evening through Tuesday. Stay warm and safe everyone.

We lost power at SML yesterday for about 8 hours. We decided to leave just before that to drive down to Pinehurst to visit our kids and while the roads (220 and 73) were OK the bridges were a mess. Saw probably a dozen vehicles mangled up on them.

Interestingly we didn’t see any DOT trucks laying down sand or abrasives...

UPDATE..

Just found out that our power went out again about an hour after it came on and is not anticipated to come back on until 10pm on the 16th...
We’ll be going home tomorrow morning to crank up the generator and hope we can save the contents of our freezer...

We've had rain, freezing rain, ice, and snow off and on for days now down here in extreme SE Virginia. No real accumulation. Just generally crappy weather.

Day 2 without power. Snow then Ice is no fun. Had to cut up a couple of trees that fell across the driveway as well.

Thank god for generators and wood stoves.

Same boat as you 95flhr. It seems I am the first house without power down Eastham road. Neighbors west of me have had power back since about 11 last night. Pretty sure that the transformer that feeds my house blew its fuse because of a tree across both wires. I went and cut the tree off the line and the rest that were blocking the drive for the house behind me. Hopefully REC will get the fuse replaced sometime today.

REC is showing 742 homes affected over in Beaverdam. There are about 100 or so here by the lake

Here’s what the outages look like for REC. You can definitely see where the brunt of the ice storm was

A longtime friend of mine came over last evening, as the power at his house had been out all day. By around 10pm he was back online. I just had a look at the outage maps, and his area still has a number of neighborhoods out. The utility is reporting 48k customers out of power, not changed much from last night.

Storm recovery is a heck of a big job for the power crews. I wish those guys and gals strength, safety, and stamina.

It's getting warmer here now -- about 38 degrees -- so there's lots of melting going on, but we're due for rain and freezing rain again tonight and tomorrow. And Thursday. We're going to be nothing but mud here for a while....

God bless America.

Looks like we still have around 12K without power here in our area.

Nope. Watched 3 REC trucks drive by about 2 hours ago. According to the website, they cleared the Beaverdam problem and the 73 homes that were affected just before crossing into Spotsy. Word is they are bringing in some out of state help but who knows how long that’s gonna take.

We're supposed to get it here tomorrow night. Predictions of a half to three quarters of an inch of ice.
Over a half inch is when tree branches start snapping and taking down power lines.
Should be loads of fun.

The ice is gone here. To me, I have seen much worse ice storms in this area, where you could not drive on the highways. Temp around 35°

Not sure why this ice storm has caused havoc on power lines in my area.

Finally got my power back 10 minutes ago. Took less than 8 minutes to get the work done (blown fuse tube which is what I suspected). Snow/Ice is mostly gone. Time to get ready for the next one

ours came back about 10 last night. I agree, need to get ready for the next one which might be Thursday. Need to get some fuel for the generators and move some more firewood closer to the house.

I think I will be cleaning up downed trees and limbs through the summer as it is.

I live in downtown Charleston, close to the State Capitol. Iced up sidewalks and streets all over last Thursday. Got dug out Friday, but barely. Iced heavily yesterday. No power outages, thank goodness. Another storm due tonight, but hopefully it will miss us - seems to be moving towards western WV and up the Ohio Valley.

ours came back on yesterday around 5

a few small trees snapped behind the house, if the yard every dries up I'll cut them up for the firepit (small pines, one small popular)

neighbors had some sizeable trees down , but nothing hit anyone's house

Power just went out, after trickling in and out all evening. I’m in Huntington.
Lots of rain fell today, but air was below freezing. Added a lot of ice on top of the ice/snow mix we got last Thursday.
Right now, I hear a tree crack and branches fall about every 45 seconds on the hillside behind our house.
Going to be a long night.
