I have a vintage (1980s) Rolex that I received as a graduation gift back in the day. It was engraved on the back of the case with my name and the year. How much do you think this affects the resale value?

Personally it would be cool to have a piece of history attached to an old Rolex. Jewelry store selling used Rolex watches might have a different view. U.S. Army 11F4P Vietnam 69-70 NRA Life Member

Almost none at all, TMK. A replacement watch back is quite reasonable.

Most collectors do not mind the engraving, especially if the year corresponds to the vintage of the watch. God, Family, Country.

The adjective vintage gets to me. I suppose I'm more than vintage by now. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." If you have the intention to sell your Rolex, I would suggest purchasing a replacement case back and note that with the sale. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. Since it’s just the case you could always buy a new case back to swap it out.

From what I learned on Antiques Road Show. It depends totally on the watch, the owner, the message and the other " stuff" Paper work, receipt, box, manuals . It's all in the equation. In my opinion it would depend on the. Model. Let's say a Stainless Steel Daytona vs a Stainless Steel Datejust. Because the Daytona is still a highly sought after Model,in my opinion not that much as compared to lets say a Datejust. As some have said just replace the case back, however I am not sure how specific the case back is to the watch model. If I am not mistaken Rolex case backs are engraved on the inside. I don't know if the information is specific to that exact watch. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. I'd hang onto the original at least through the sale. The new one will be obvious due to age/patina, and the buyer may want the original as part of a deal for completeness. If not, it will be a nice keepsake. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Keep the watch as original as possible if you want it to hold value. That would mean no replacement case back. _________________________ 2nd Amendment Defender The Second Amendment is not about hunting or sport shooting.

Maybe purchase a new back, inscribe it, and keep the original back with the box, paperwork, receipt, etc. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first
