As you describe it ..yes. You 'Would' have received a reduced SS check. Your statement, "I would think we should get full SS since we both have fully contributed" is what workers have been saying for the last (40 years?) of the WEP injustice. WEP would only apply to those who retired prior to January 6th when it was repealed. From here on out, those who retire will get the full benefit. As an example, WEP deducted over 500.00 from my SS payment. My deduction as well as many others, went to support the SS fund all these years ![]() 'I am the danger'...Hiesenberg NRA Certified Pistol Instructor NRA Certified Rifle Instructor NRA Life Member

Thank you. Yeah that is messed up that I contribute in every paycheck, yet I would get a reduced amount just for getting a pension. I could make 2-3 times more if I didn’t have a government job. The trade off is the benefits. NRA Benefactor Life Member

That is what passed, if you did not put in the 10 yrs into SS you are not eligible. I also put in my quarters and then some. But when I retired and started collecting they began to pay me an amount. They then said I was over paid because of the WEP. For two years I received no SS because they calculated incorrectly and had to pay that back. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

If under the CSRS retirement system (old), no. If under FERS (new), yes. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. I’m glad to see this pass. As a retired state employee collecting a full pension as well as having worked and paid my 40 quarters plus , being reduced simply because I worked a job that offered a pension for 31yrs makes no sense. If you worked your 40 quarters paying into SS you deserve it. My wife on the other hand doesn’t have her 40 qtr in. She’s been teaching her entire post college career so she doesn’t have any SS benefits coming. As it should be.

I am curious if anyone has any inside information as to when the adjustment to Social Security benefits will be made for those that are impacted by the passing and signing of the Social Security Fairness act.

Update 2/25/25 from https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/r...irness-act.html?tl=2 "Starting the week of February 24, 2025, SSA is beginning to pay retroactive benefits and will increase monthly benefit payments to people whose benefits have been affected by the WEP and GPO If a beneficiary is due retroactive benefits as a result of the Act, they will receive a one-time retroactive payment, deposited into the bank account SSA has on file, by the end of March. This retroactive payment will cover the increase in their benefit amount back to January 2024, the month when WEP and GPO no longer apply."

quote: Do .gov employees pay into Social Security? If under the CSRS retirement system (old), no. If under FERS (new), yes. FYI, the change from CSRS to FERS was 1983. There are very few active CSRS employees left.

Good News! "Starting the week of February 24, 2025, SSA is beginning to pay retroactive benefits and will increase monthly benefit payments to people whose benefits have been affected by the WEP and GPO If a beneficiary is due retroactive benefits as a result of the Act, they will receive a one-time retroactive payment, deposited into the bank account SSA has on file, by the end of March. This retroactive payment will cover the increase in their benefit amount back to January 2024, the month when WEP and GPO no longer apply. Social Security benefits are paid one month behind. Most affected beneficiaries will begin receiving their new monthly benefit amount in April 2025 (for their March 2025 benefit). Anyone whose monthly benefit is adjusted, or who will get a retroactive payment, will receive a mailed notice from Social Security explaining the benefit change or retroactive payment. NOTE: A beneficiary may receive two mailed notices, the first when WEP or GPO is removed from their record, and a second when their monthly benefit amount is adjusted for their new monthly payment amount. They may receive the retroactive payment before receiving the mailed notice. We have been able to expedite payments due to the use of automation. For the many complex cases that cannot be processed automatically, additional time is required to manually update the records and pay both retroactive benefits and the new benefits amount. We urge beneficiaries to wait until April to inquire about the status of their retroactive payment, since these payments will process incrementally throughout March. Beneficiaries should also wait until after receiving their April payment before contacting SSA to ask about their monthly benefit amount because the new amount will not be reflected until April for their March payment."
