Is there such a thing? I am currently using a Charbroil Red that I have to buy new parts every couple of years (grates, burners, warming rack, etc). It does cook really well and I like it, but $100+ Just for new grates is annoying. I am at the point where I need to spend about $120 to keep it running, or just get something else. I do TRY and use a grill cover, but don’t always remember to get it on. I did really well this last parts swap but the porcelain cast iron grates started rusting pretty quick anyway. I even cleaned and applied canola oil on a regular basis. Is there a good gas grill for $500? Looking for recommendations. I could go up a little, but probably won’t be able to get a $900 Webber. UPDATE Well, I ended up getting that Weber Stainless 3 burner. It was $799 + tax and came with a free I grill 3 from Home Depot, some special they were running a couple weeks ago. So far we have done a few rounds of chicken, steak, and burgers. The steak came out perfectly using the igrill set to medium rare. Liking it so far! This message has been edited. This is why I switched to a Big Green Egg. I had an expensive gas grill and had to keep replacing so many parts every year. It was costing a lot so I switched to the BGE and I have not had to replace any parts in years. NRA Benefactor Life Member | |||

I felt your pain. I was replacing the burner every year because the replacement parts were worse than the original. Then I got little red squirrel bastards chewing the venturi tubes and had to do those twice a year! I loved that grill. A buddy even sandblasted it for me. I know you don't don't want to hear this but I got a large Big Green Egg and the only thing I've replaced in 15 yrs is the bottom coal grate which was $20. 15 yrs! I showed them red squirrels. | |||

My folks had a Charbroil that rusted away to nothing. I remember having to replace the burner a few times. They teplaced it with a Weber (and one of their cheaper models.) After they passed, at least a decade later, and I was selling the house, it was still in good shape, and I gave it to the neighbors. | |||

I bought an old Weber for $30. Pre-runner to a Genesis, but with 5 flavorizer bars instead of 13. Cleaned it up, looks brand new. It’ll last another 30 years, and the Weber grills work like a dream. No flame ups and great heat control. I just checked our local classifieds, and there’s three just like mine for under $50. It seems they get dirty and people don’t realize how nice it can be. I have had a Weber for 10 years. I have replaced a couple parts that were pretty cheap. I can’t complain as their parts are cheap and can be found in lots of places. I will get another Weber if i am ever forced to. There are 3 kinds of people, those that understand numbers and those that don't. | |||

We bought a Weber Genesis E330 for a house I manage, the grill has sat outside 10' from a saltwater canal for the past 2 years with a cover. it is perfect inside and out and has no rust, corrosion or anything on it. | |||

Thanks guys! I see mixed reviews online with Weber. Some say they don’t rust, others complain about them rusting. I am guessing the stainless Genesis® II S-310 Gas Grill would be the one to get to help with rust, but again, a little pricey at $950. The large BGE is $849, but then you need the nest for $160. Buy a couple of accessories and your walking out of there at $1300 after tax. I love the flavor charcoal grills produce, but sometimes gas is easier when tossing 2 burgers and a hot dog on for the family.This message has been edited. Last edited by: hunter62, | |||

Price isn’t an indicator as I’ve done the test below and had sub $500 grill pass and $1500 grills fail. There are multiple grades of stainless steel. The ones that are magnetic are an inexpensive grade but ones that are not magnetic have higher percentages of corrosion resistant alloys. Therefore, take a magnet to EVERY component (lid, burners, bolts, grates, etc) in the store before you buy. I have a weber that's been running strong for about six years. No problems at all and it's used several times a week. However, I also have a big green egg that is absolutely fantastic when it comes to smoking meats. One is definitely not a replacement for the other. I'm fortunate in that I can keep them under our outdoor porch roof so they're not rained on. I think that makes a huge difference. Made in Texas, in the good ole' U.S. of A. | |||

I was at the same point with a Charbroil grill. I replaced with a (low-end) Weber - the Spirit E310. It's currently on Amazon at $489. Has decent reviews (4.5 out of 5) overall but, as with most products, a few substantial complaints. Mine is exactly three years old, no rust, no replacement parts so far. That said, I take care of it, clean it after use, keep the grates oiled, and always keep a good quality (thick) grill cover on. I've been quite pleased, YMMV. | |||

Charbroil Grills are known to rust out after a couple years, they are junk. I have a Weber Genesis Silver B that is 25 years old. Still has the original burners, the only parts I have replaced are the flavor bars and cast iron grates. I had one Weber Genesis for twenty years (stolen from parents). After twenty years the grates were replaced. Then it finally happened rust kicked in. I lost a bolt, instead of going to fastenal and picking up replacement bolt I went and bought a new one. Seven years in so far. Had to replace the ignitor and grates showed tiny bit of rust five years in. Weber sent the grates for free and I had to pay for ignitor. I had just called to buy the SS grates to replace the iron ones, assuming at five years old and being cast iron they'd be out of warranty, nope. CSR said I'd have to wait another five or ten years and then upgrade to SS at that point. I don't cover the grill, kept on a patio exposed to weather 24/7. I expect this one to last 20+ years too. In the end my cost of ownership is way lower than buying a $300 grill every four years. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis | |||

I use my BGE more often than my Weber but the Weber is about 12 years old and still looks and works great. By a Weber, you'll kick yourself for not spending the money sooner. | |||
