You have to understand that they think everyone else is like them, so they accuse others of what they have done or would have done if given the chance.

Trump Asked Major GOP Donors Who They Want to Succeed Him. This Is How They Answered.

President Donald Trump reportedly asked major GOP donors who they would choose to succeed him when he leaves office.

On Feb. 28, Trump met with about 25 Republican donors, including New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and asked who they think should be the GOP presidential nominee in 2028, according to NBC News. It appears Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the favorite.

"Attendees overwhelmingly indicated Secretary of State Marco Rubio through their cheering, according to two people who were at the event.

“It was almost unanimous for Marco,” said a person in attendance, who, like others in this article, was granted anonymity to speak candidly.

“Yeah, that’s right,” said the second attendee about the informal Trump poll. “It was clear, at least that night.”

Another person in the room characterized the response as more “evenly split” between Rubio and Vance.

That small gathering in Florida — Rubio’s home state — doesn’t necessarily mean that Rubio is the new favorite over Vice President JD Vance for 2028.

“The Mar-a-Lago donor crew are not JD people,” a former Trump administration official said. “He did not get picked [to be vice president] because of the Mar-a-Lago crowd. If you remember, that crowd was lobbying the president to pick Marco.”

“So, I’d say stuff like that is a bit gamed,” the former official added. “If there were a poll taken tomorrow, I’d bet JD is still up by 40 [points], or whatever it is.”

Last month, Trump asked the same question of White House advisers. Most in his inner circle favored Vice President JD Vance as the heir to the MAGA movement. Axios reported that the president continues to look at Vance as his eventual successor and that a Vance/Rubio race would be “the president’s dream ticket.”

Republican voters also appear to favor Vance, according to recent polling. Several national and state surveys show the vice president well ahead of other possible contenders. One survey of likely GOP primary voters for 2028 showed Vance with a majority of support while Rubio and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lag far behind in the teens or single digits.

An Emerson College survey of GOP voters puts Vance above 50 percent nationally with Rubio and DeSantis in the single digits. However, a large portion are still undecided.

Rubio/Vance or Vance/Rubio either way sounds good. The debates between them and Harris/Newsome would be epic entertainment.

Yeah about a year ago I was Vance/Rubio but after watching Rubio the last year I think he is squeezing past Vance for prez.
Not sure Vance would want second fiddle again so need to figure out a backup for VP.

Thune Says ‘Votes Aren’t There’ for Trump-Backed Move to Pass SAVE Act

‘I’m the person who has to deliver sometimes the not-so-good news,’ Sen. John Thune said.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said on March 10 that he’s counted votes in the upper chamber and concluded there aren’t enough to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act by employing the so-called talking filibuster.

“We don’t have the votes either to proceed, get on a talking filibuster, nor to sustain one if we got on it. But that’s just a function of math, and there isn’t anything I can do about that,” Thune told reporters in Washington.

Asked if the president understands that, Thune added: “We’ve conveyed that to him, but we'll continue to make that argument because I think it’s important that everybody understand that this really is about. It’s about the votes, it’s about the math, and I’m—for better or worse—I’m the one who has to be the clear-eyed realist about what we can achieve here.”

Trump is urging Republicans to approve the SAVE Act, which requires voter applicants to provide documents such as a passport proving U.S. citizenship. The president has said he will not sign any other bills until Congress approves the legislation.
The House of Representatives passed the bill in February, and it has been awaiting action by the Senate since.

Trump wrote in a March 8 post on Truth Social that Republicans should use the talking filibuster to pass the SAVE Act.

The filibuster means the Senate can generally only pass bills with at least 60 votes. Republicans only hold 53 seats, and Democrats oppose the SAVE Act.
The talking filibuster is a tactic the GOP could employ to force Democrats to spend time on the Senate floor protesting the bill, culminating in a vote that would require only a simple majority to pass.

Thune said that he will bring the legislation up for a vote.

“We'll give the Democrats the opportunity to cast their vote on whether or not they think noncitizens ought to vote in elections. And so that debate will happen,” Thune said. “But like I said, I can guarantee the debate. I can guarantee a vote. I just can’t guarantee an outcome.”

Thune also said he would be “very surprised” if Democrats vote for the bill.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters in a separate briefing on Capitol Hill that the SAVE Act would let federal immigration officers remove tens of millions of people from voter registration lists and not inform them they had been removed until they showed up to vote on Election Day.

“This is a bill that destroys the country. And it is not about showing ID when you show up to vote. It’s about the voter registration rolls, destroying them, purging them, not letting people know,” Schumer said.

“It’s an outrageous bill ... and we’re going to fight it tooth and nail,” he added later.

Democrats broadly oppose the measure, saying the requirement to present documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote could create new barriers for millions of eligible voters.

Why? There's ZERO downside of posting the entire article...It's not even that long, and surely there are plenty of people that would rather read it right here anyway! You're still free to click on the link, if that suits you.

Regardless of the posting Thune is most likely right. The votes aren't there. Democrats are in unison in their opposition the Republicans are divided in their support for the bill. In other words business as usual.

^^^ Thune is lying. Even if Murkowski, Tillis and McConnell voted with the rats, it will be 50-50. Coliins already said she will vote yes. Vance breaks the tie.

Anyone voting no is voting to continue allowing rampant election fraud.

Sooo, Republicans are unable (unwilling!) to pass the SAVE Act...Meanwhile in among the electorate:

95% of Republicans support it!
70% of Democrats support it!

Overall support is at 85% when you include the Independents. Ensuring honest elections is VERY likely the most unified issue in American history.

And yet, in the Senate it's 50-50... Roll Eyes
