They Mayor is having a $ 500 per gun buy back this week-end. My buddies and I are pulling together the scrap crap guns and heading there early Saturday. I got three old .22 single shot rifles. I believe I see a couple of new Sigs in my future. Fighting crime.

https://wgno.com/2019/01/15/ma...ces-gun-buyback-day/

ADDNL INFO: Guns must be working and since it is No Questions Asked they will not be checking ID's but may ask for utility bill. If you don't have a bill they will still accept them I suspect.

What are the particulars?
I've got a couple of broken guns and am affiliated by the government shutdown so I'd love to make the drive from Biloxi this weekend...

Just read the link, working guns only, and Orleans residents only... damn

Looks like you have to prove residency and they are only giving a "max" $500 per person no matter how many guns you turn in.
"Orleans Parish residents ONLY may turn in any working firearm and receive $500 cash, no questions asked.

ID’s will not be checked, but sellers must show proof of residency.
You may turn in as many guns as you like, but only $500 MAX will be given per resident.
Guns MUST be in a bag. DO NOT bring exposed weapons."

I am sure this will decrease the gun violence. Paying 500 dollars is crazy. In fact the whole idea is more than stupid.

Just get a library card.

If I was closer I'd give it a try.

I bet they will be out of money before everyone dumps their Jennings, old break barrels, and what not.

Heck, buy a bunch of cheap $150-$200 LCPs and have all your friends double-triple their money! Big Grin

You can always ask a friend. I agreed to pay two friends to go and we will each get $ 500 and I am giving them 100 and I get 400..

Yeah sure. The last time I got a library card they wanted a drivers license, utility bill and all manner of ID. The lady at the counter probably worked in corrections before. Of course maybe you could show your SNAP card.

Can anyone please explain why cities that do these buy programs are not required to have an FFL?

I am sure ATF would nail me if I placed an ad re buying guns in the same quantity as cities do. Roll Eyes

But, you see, it's for the chirrrrins, so it's AOK.

Probably the same way a LE Department can get full auto M16s - it's the government, they are special. Wink And even if big gov't gets mad, nothing really would happen.

Wonder if they would payoff on a mouse trap and a piece of copper tubing. I think I could cobble that together pretty cheap. Wouldn't look much like a gun (maybe a tiny cannon), but it would torch off a 22 cartridge.

Then sell a bunch of them to guys standing in like to collect their $500.

Lots of way to make this thing work.

Exactly how do they verify that it's a "working firearm"? Do they have a range or clearing barrel in the back or something?

1. 3'-4' length of 3"-4" diameter fiberglass tube.
2. Old AR grip that's laying around.
3. Sheet metal(old tin cans will do), with tin snips to fashion basic sights.
4. Stencils.
5. Some 18 ga. single strand wire ~10 feet.
6. Battery connected to a small LED light.
7. Can of OD spray paint.

Cobble together to make a Tube with a pistol grips & sights, and a light that comes on when the switch "trigger" is activated. Paint OD green with stencil letters that say "Rocket Launcher" with some nonsense Alpha-Numeric "PRL-335M", NSN#, etc.

Bring to gun buyback, get $500, watch news about a "Rocket Launcher" turned in and "off the Streets".
Send news the link to your YouTube video of you making a toy for your kid, and getting $500 for it.
