Do No Harm, Do Know Harm |
From halfway across the nation knocked on your door out of the blue, with no prior notice, one day just to shake your hand? Asking for a friend This message has been edited. Yes. He should have brought beer as well. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Poor etiquette, as far as I'm concerned. Q

I may not answer the door if I see a stranger. Nine times out of ten it's somebody selling something. It's best to contact me first.

If somewhere in communication anything inferred “when your ever in town” Then kind of set it up ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

Rude? No. Would be a little more considerate if they called or sent a message beforehand? Yes. Would you consider it more rude if they came halfway across the nation, was passing through your city, and didn't give a shit enough to give you(r friend) the time of day? Could be an excuse to find a local range/steakhouse to spend the afternoon and have a good time.

Does he have a bottle of bourbon or beer in the other hand? ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Good points. I’ll shoot Mr. Allen an email! Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. If they bring me some Whataburger or Torchy's, they are welcome anytime. #3 with cheese, preferable. Whatasized. ___________________________ He looked like an accountant or a serial-killer type. Definitely one of the service industries.

You gotta to call ahead, come to my house without prior notice you might be really upset. I don't like anybody coming to call unless the dogs think of you as one of the family. They will let me know if your not on the list. Chris

IF you gave that person your address and said "if your ever in town", then it is a soft no. Of they got your address from something you sold them, of from another person, then the answer would be a hard yes - very inappropriate. IF the person were in town and emailed or called you, and said "hey, I'm in town if you have some time" then I;d put that in the OK box. The only people I want showing top to my house are those whom I have given my address and asked them to come. I was pissed when our house was on the market, we had 3 couples and their kids over, and a realtor and their client is on my front porch at 9:15 PM asking to see the house.

This isn't 1954. Life is complicated and busy. I'd look for a text first. "Hey, got time for a beer?" Just dropping by and knocking? A big no-way in my book!
