Amazon raising Prime to $120 Login/Join

I don’t watch their movies very often, wondering if they have finally priced themselves beyond what I consider a value.

NEW YORK — Amazon is raising the price of its annual Prime membership fee to $119 a year, up 20 percent from $99.

New Prime members in the U.S. will be charged the higher price starting May 11. The increase will apply to renewals of existing memberships starting on June 16.

Still worth it for us, watch a ton of movies, listen to music, and monthly deliveries of basics, dog food, etc.

Saw this today as well and am seriously thinking about calling it quits after 19 years as a Prime member (signed up in 1999). If the other aspects of Prime membership had any real value to me I may still be able to rationalize it but the free movies are very limited, I don't use the Music or cloud features either. While free shipping is nice, for $120 a year I would rather plan ahead with my orders and use the slow shipping method to minimize cost.

The final part for me is that I have honestly grown to really resent Amazon. It's gotten to the point where you pretty much have to use them for some things rather than buying locally and that's a real shame. I've tried to find small electronics items, some tools and many other things locally and you just can't so you wind up there. Starting in 2019 they will be handling my health insurance! At what point are they just too big?

Yeah I am really getting tired of everything going up along with my property taxes. Yet since I work for a government agency I never get a pay increase so it is getting hard to afford things. The free shipping is really the only thing I use. The videos is not worth it as you have to pay for most to watch. I may just stop ordering small things when I want because of free shipping and just order when I have Eminem’s to justify a order.

Prime started in 2005...You probably first ordered from Amazon in 1999.

I think I signed up in 08 or 09. Definitely still worth it for us - we do a lot of shopping on Amazon. Also use the video and music services.

Costs me $50 or more to drive once to the nearest city and back, to buy pretty much anything other than the basic groceries and hardware we can get in Jerkwater. So we'll pay the increase.

After cancelling DirecTV last year Amazon is where I watch the majority of my TV shows and movies. 120 a year isn’t even what I was paying a month for satellite service.

Up 150% since I joined. But I also use it a lot more than when I joined. No one-day or same-day shipping then. Also no prime video. With the price increase, Prime will still be less than a Netflix subscription, which is just streaming.

I spend plenty of time on Amazon between shopping movies, TV and some music. They've added alot of content and shows. Their delivery service tells me how far they are from my house and where they hid my package (Are we not doing phrasing?). Seems reasonable to me.

Well worth 10 bucks a month considering I pay 11 just for Netflix and prime gives me so much more.

I save well over 120$/year on the free shipping alone.

Whenever they delay my shipping I chat online and complain. They always add a month of prime for free. Had it happen twice last year. So it lowers the overall cost.

I only signed up for Prime last year. In one way, it was worth it because I ordered more stuff from Amazon in the last year than ever before. On the other hand, I ordered more stuff I didn't really need because of no shipping charge and fast delivery. I don't really watch a lot of Prime Video or use any other aspect of it so I think I won't be renewing come my renewal date. I'll probably save money that way too.
