In my corporate days, laying off basically good people sucked. Firing people who where capable of doing their job, but where just lazy made my day, and seemed to make the day for the person's co workers. I learned I really hated the corporate world, with young MBA's walking around like they where God's gift, spouting their learned tactics that where so transparent. As I recall none of these types lasted too long. I can't point to anything that I would call the worst when I owned and operated my little business. I liked most of that and tolerated it when times where thin. I wore a big ass grin on my face when we landed a new lucrative client and we all celebrated. No suits or corporate expense accounts, no three hour lunches and all that went with being in that world at that time. I turned into a roll up my sleeves type of guy and it felt very good. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

I think I speak for a lot of people in my field of work, law enforcement, when I say I fear political ramifications more than anything else. I never really feared the criminals. I have sound tactics, the right mindset, and work with a bunch of studs who are the same way. We are going to win the fight 99 times out of 100. I like those odds. However, I don't doubt for one second that the police administration, county prosecutor, and city officials wouldn't throw an officer under the bus in half a heartbeat over a shooting or in custody death. I hate to see myself and my coworkers being so apprehensive about every little thing out of fear for being hung out to dry over some shi*bird.

Dealing with people who feel "entitled". Yes, you have access to government agencies, but you can't go to the offices without going through proper screening. People just hate to empty their pockets/bags.....

Back when I was in business this was the same for me, only rather than patients substitute "customers and employees". Fortunately the great customers and employees by far outnumbered the problem ones, but the problem ones could be pure hell. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Replacing good software with lesser software because of better software that's actually worse. Case in point: risk mgt and insurance carrier rqts for Company IT security. We were hacked a while back with ransomeware, but worked ourselves out of it without paying a dime. After that Risk mgt and insurance carriers got involved, made us do things that aren't technically up to par. Good for the company from the lawyers pov but a real pita for us IT folks. o Very interesting how many of the above comments ring true o My Civilian Job; I've been in the commercial ($) department for ~ 11 years now; They are NEVER satisfied, it is never enough and there always seems to be a tone of either disappointment or impending down-turn o Military side; I wish others were a little more pationate about realistic training, not so much on checking the box (What we do or do not train on is far above my pay grade; I will let that rest on their conscious).

Mandated political correctness. After the George Floyd incident, my last CEO created a whole new division in the company dedicated to the notion that all white men are racists that must be re-educated. Required training / indoctrination classes and a "suggested" reading list of books and articles with titles like "Why Not Being a Racist Isn't Enough". I honestly don't give a shit what color a person's skin is. But I swear, they were beginning to turn me into the very thing that they hate so much. It was one of the big reasons why I decided to retire early.

I work out on “the job”. I can’t complain about the actual work and company social justice BS doesn’t reach out into the field. The worst thing would be the typically hour long commute, currently through the golden triangle of low brain function drivers in the Frankfort, Lexington, Versailles area. “That’s what.” - She

In low level management, a challenge is creating a burning desire to succeed in younger engineers who work without passion. It is challenging to share that we need an associate to push for success, to encourage others to help achieve goals, to manage others without authority, to go beyond what they think is possible... But, I do love my job. So much to do, and so many challenges. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

I'm a 911 dispatcher. The biggest thing I hate about my job are the idiot callers. Not the uninformed, but the true idiots. The people that call 911 for a stumped toe at 0300, or the ones that want an officer to make their 8 year old get ready for school. THOSE callers. The thing I love the most about my job are the people. Those truly in need. I love hearing a baby take it's first breath. Or someone following my instructions properly do the Heimlich and get an 8 year old breathing again. Or the family when their father having a heart attack gets a pulse back after proper CPR. Those moments are why I do this job. Few and far between, for sure, but when they come it's worth all the bullshit I've put up with over the years. Only 7 more years to go until I retire. Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

In general, poor management, people in roles they shouldn't be just because it's a growth industry. On any given day, a important piece of equipment breaking. Past Saturday I went in for a few hours to do paperwork. Get home, get a call from the boss, hey I heard you were in the office. No, I'm home but I can go deal with emergency. Vendor will be there in a few hours, head over now to prepare. OK. I arrived at 3pm, vendor sucks, no parts available. Finally leave at 1am after stealing part from unit in a different part of the building that was already being repaired. It's rare, but sometimes my plans just get destroyed by work. On the appliance side it's probably people who take things apart before they call me trying to figure out what's wrong. With no idea as to how to disassemble the product or what they are looking for. Second would be the people who make an appointment but can't take 30 seconds to call and cancel so I have to scramble to find someone from the next 80 or so people in line who will fit into the route for the day I've already set up. On the EMS side, we get a lot of BS calls but the single thing i hate most is BEDBUGS. Makes me absolutely shudder plus I have to go through a bunch of steps when I get home before i can come into th ehouse to make sure i don't have any hitchhikers. Preretirement: handling infant death cases. I handled every one, and was first on the scene of one the day before I turned in all my gear and got my retired creds. Post retirement: The counter at the LGS I work at is exactly the wrong height for doing paperwork/4473s. It's too low to stand up straight and too high for a chair, which they wouldn't let us have anyway. So after a thrilling day of selling Heritage revolvers and SCYY pistols I've got the throbbing back from hell.
