Pilot lights in heating apparatus Login/Join 
Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

I have a small workshop built in an out building that has a wall furnace with a standing pilot light in it. It certainly isn't a high efficiency piece of heating equipment.
I also have a vent-less heater, also standing pilot, that was given to me. I use the vent-less for regular use but kept the wall furnace as backup as well and as the occasional fast heat-up.
Question is:should I leave the the pilots lit in the summer time?
My thought are the pilot with prevent moisture in the units.


Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

Turn off the pilot.

da, I knew that.
I guess I was over thinking the idea.
Or maybe I just had my head up my, well not in the sunshine.
