Did the media say shelter in place due to a flare gun?
I don't know why; you can see it coming from a mile away.

Hopefully the cops aren't hurt. The worst part is cleaning up all that insulation. It gets everywhere.

When I see this many assets deployed for a single incident, I see an extreme failure in command and control. There is NO reason for tying up all these resources for this. None.

I guess there is nothing better to do since there seems to be absolutely no traffic enforcement anymore. I’d rather they could be elsewhere making a dent in crime through showing a presence being seen on patrol but that is too offensive to some as well.
Watching OPLive I often see four and more officers on some minor situation. With the recent pass for some elements of society to run wild maybe the presence of so many officers on scene is why the situation stays minor. By minor it seems to be always no license, no insurance, pot, open container, warrants, gun, someone else’s car, diarrhea of the mouth, and telephone in hand.

STERLING, Va. (AP) — One firefighter was killed and nine others were injured when an explosion in a Washington, D.C., suburb on Friday leveled a home where they were investigating a gas leak. Two civilians were also injured.
The firefighters were called to the home in Sterling, Virginia, by a report of a gas smell shortly after 7:30 p.m. and a fiery explosion took place about 30 minutes later, fire officials said.
The blast and fire occurred while firefighters were inside the building, James Williams, assistant chief of operations for Loudon County Fire and Rescue, said at a news conference.

“Soon after arrival, with firefighters inside, the house did explode,” Williams said.
One firefighter was killed, while nine firefighters and two civilians were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from limited to severe, Williams said.
“We have all firefighters out of the building. The fire will continue to smolder,” Williams said.
He described damage to the home as “total devastation.”

There’s a debris field well into the street and into the neighboring homes,” he said.
Williams said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
In a post on X, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company said its crews had responded to a report of a gas leak before the blast.
A neighbor, John Padgett, told ABC7 News that he had smelled gas while walking his dog earlier.
The blast shook his home, he said.
“It looked like an inferno,” and insulation from the burning home fell like ash, he added. “It was horrific; it looked like something out of a war zone.”
Sterling is about 22 miles (35 kilometers) northwest of Washington, D.C.

Obviously I wasn't there, so I don't know what they did or did not do, but ISTM that if the very first things they'd done upon arriving was locate and shut off the gas and and power, and, upon entering the structure, open wide every door and window in the place they might well have prevented this? Certainly that would've taken a good deal less than a half hour?

My neighbor experienced this earlier this week. He is an Army Vet, medical tech/salesman, 5 kids, some adopted, just overall good guy. He is taking his son to guitar lessons. He gets to stop sign and is behind a white Suburban (?). The Suburban is just sitting there while multiple opportunities to move come and go. My friend finally gets frustrated and guns his motor and goes around him to cross the street. Safely albeit noisily and unnecessarily. He was annoyed and acted out.

Well this car turns out to be an unmarked K9 unit. Cop pulls him over, takes him out of car, makes him sit on the curb, tells him he is deciding whether to arrest him or not. Well, 3 more units show up.

So there are 4 cops, in 4 different cars, for a basically nothing stop. If you can consider a now reckless driving charge nothing. All of which was precipitated by this cop just sitting at a stop sign in absolutely no rush to go anywhere so bottling up traffic. Kind of the traffic enforcement form of entrapment. lol

All the cops locally are all over the place this weekend because of Daytona 500. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a police car this week.

My friend was an idiot for a moment, but reckless and 4 cops? Come on. He crossed easily, no crossing traffic, as did the police officer who I believe was distracted in his vehicle and not paying attention to driving until he got passed.

No. He just got a court date. He told me the other police were very nice and "normal". The one who stopped him just seemed pissed at the world. He felt that the other police would have cited him for the lesser offense and sent him on his way. He also said that if the other police weren't there he thinks he might have been arrested, the one guy was seemingly having a very bad day.

Also local to me.

Apparently this is what happens when a 500 gallon propane tank leaks, the mercaptan smell entered the house, and the residents called the fire department.

While clearing the house, the tank apparently kept leaking, eventually leading to an explosive atmosphere, that went BOOM!, taking the rest of the tank and house with it.

Massive Truck Explosion Injures Multiple Firefighters in Los Angeles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJbvLhe_gfI

Nine L.A. firefighters injured, two critically, in semi-truck explosion in Wilmington

https://www.latimes.com/califo...wilmington-explosion

Nine Los Angeles firefighters were injured when a natural-gas-powered semi-truck that had caught fire exploded in Wilmington early Thursday, sending 30-foot flames into the air and rattling neighbors.

The situation began shortly before 7 a.m. when 10 firefighters responded to 1120 Alameda St. to extinguish a vehicle fire. Six minutes after they arrived — as they attempted to squelch the flames — a 100-gallon compressed natural gas tank that helped power the truck exploded, according to fire officials.

The blast sent up a plume of black smoke and a fireball that was large enough to reach a transformer on a power line, damaging it.

Nine firefighters were transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. As of Thursday afternoon, two remained in critical condition while the others were being treated for general injuries. One of the firefighters in critical condition was transferred to Los Angeles General Medical Center, which operates one of only three burn centers in the city, the hospital said.

“This is a difficult day in Los Angeles,” Mayor Karen Bass said during a morning news conference at Harbor-UCLA.

“I’m here with a simple message to our firefighters in the building behind me and in fire stations across our city watching the news this morning unfold: The 4 million people of Los Angeles stand with you.”

The semi, which did not have a trailer used to transport cargo, was unique in that it wasn’t powered by diesel. It was a clean-air vehicle fueled by two 100-gallon tanks of compressed natural gas mounted on either side of the truck. The tanks were under 3,300 pounds of pressure, so when one exploded, the blast was significant, L.A. Fire Department Capt. Erik Scott said.

It is unclear what caused the truck to catch fire. The driver, who was unharmed, told fire officials she noticed “abnormalities” in the two tanks that power the vehicle, so she stepped outside and called 911.
