Where is the upside to that? He’ll be replaced by someone just as obnoxious, if not as senior.

Nope. He resigned.

Damn. Bad news. Republicans losing a senator means McCain and Collins will be calling all the shots. Hurts our chances to get another Gorsuch on SCOTUS if there is an opening in 2018.

The only upside to this is that we can stop listening to news about this Senate race. And there's a pretty good chance the Dem gets voted out in two years. By then Sessions should be done as AG anyway.

Senators have a six year term.

And tomorrow the Libs will be in full meltdown!

Crap, I posted too soon. Looks like Jones won it, with help from a large number of Republicans.

Jones is out in 2 years.
I am sure he will enjoy his very short tenure in the senate.

Yes, but this is a special election to finish out Sessions' term, which ends in 2020.

I am guessing the fill in will be two years and gone when the seat comes up in two years.

The Republicans botched this one with short-term thinking. All the GOPe figures that threw Moore under the bus or even voted for Jones really accomplished a lot, huh? They gave an easy GOP senate seat to a Democrat. Congratulations. They could have worked to hold the seat and then dealt with Moore, forcing him to resign or get expelled or a whatever. Then a republican could be appointed to fill the seat and we would have bought two years to get our act together before the next election. But this fucking GOP insists on shooting itself in the foot every damn time just about. They go out of their way to pander to the liberal elite to show that they aren't the evil monsters that the liberals say they are. Somehow the liberals are never there for THEM when they need it. The next time it suits their purposes, they'll go right on trashing the GOP folks. I swear, it's worse than Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football. They never fucking learn.

In 2 years, Jones will lose his seat.

With Moore gone, the Democrat dream of the moral high ground on sexual harassment kinda falls off the chart.

Trump is about the only person they can hit and he's teflon because the voters knew about the accusers' claims when they voted for him.

In some ways, I wonder if many Democrats feel they lost even though they won.

It would have been that way for Republicans if Moore had won.

During those 2 years, how much will we lose? I hate to think of everything that can be done in the current (highly corrupt) political environment.
