“ California air regulators are set to vote Thursday on a historic plan that would effectively require all new cars sold within the state to be zero-emission vehicles by 2035 — a ruling that would put the nation’s most populous state in the forefront of phasing out internal combustion engines and the harmful, planet-warming gasses they emit.”
"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
Unless these EV's are charged by moonlight and moon panels, the power is likely from some 'planet warming' source. Got enough of non-planet warming energy sources to charge those EVs?

So consumers take their business to AZ/NV or any other state & buy their gas burners there? Unless CA plans to stop allowing registrations on ICE cars after a certain model year, which would also keep older/less efficient cars on the road longer.
BTW, I heard that to service an EV, you need to take them into the dealer (maybe only applicable to tesla?). If ICE goes away, will there be enough service stations to support all the EVs? All the ICE shops get converted to "tesla" shops?

According to PG&E, our electricity supplier, most electricity in CA is produced by internal combustion engines running on nat. gas. They say the reason for the super high electricity prices is that with the drought, less power is produced by hydro.
However, only 11% of our electricity comes from hydro, and 46% from natural gas. We have plenty of natural gas locally, but PG&E claims that high natural gas prices in Europe are causing our nat. gas price to skyrocket.

Good for them voting that way. It leaves more real cars for the rest of us.
(Hope nobody tells them that battery cars will always create more particulate emissions than any other vehicle.)

The proposed ban is only on the sale of new vehicles and existing ICE will co-exist.
Gas stations, replacement parts, mechanics and all that will continue on in parallel.
I do have a question:
Let's say in 2035 you decide to make the switch to EV because the technology is better or it makes sense for you. What do you do with your perfectly functioning ICE? What dealer will accept it on trade? Why would they take a vehicle the government looks on with disdain? Who will buy the trade? Out of state?
Questions...

So I guess CA has fixed their grid, there are no more brown outs, and is ready for the millions of people plugging their cars in every night. Right? Right??? Bueller?

This will be great. CA gets 70% of their power from out of state, mostly AZ and NV. Here in AZ we are going to get our water allotment from the Colorado River cut by 23% due to the low level of Lake Mead. So we can stop selling electricity to CA until we get our allotment increased, because power plants need cooling water. We get water, they can charge their electric vehicles. Win win.

Not the smart ones. Same government taking 15ish percent of your customers every year is the same government that will sue in a heartbeat for price gouging if you raise prices.
Or even larger scale, same government that changes the emission regulations every year or two requiring billions in refinery capital expenditure will be taking 15ish percent of your customers every year. Who in their right mind will invest capital in that environment?
